Amanda ho
I'm on day 12 of my first W30. I am a nurse that works 12h shifts from 630am to 7pm. I eat 2 eggs and either white or sweet potato hashbrowns for breakfast @0530 most days. I usually do not get to eat again until 2pm and by then I am extremely hungry and have a horrible headache. When I do eat lunch it is usually 3.5-4 oz of meat, a cup of veggies, and a cup or grapes. Dinner usually happens around 8 pm and is 3-4 oz of meat and 2 cups usually cooked veggies. I have had headaches everyday thus far with little energy and crappy sleep. I'm not sure how to make this go better but I fight everyday to not quit. How can I change this to fit long days and help decrease the headaches and fatigue?? On my days off my meals are pretty much the same but closer together and I workout for 1-2 hours so I usually eat an extra 3 oz of chicken. But the headaches still exist and I do drink between 64-90 oz of water day. Unfortunately this is falling during Lent so for today and every Friday I can't eat meat, but I can have fish. Any suggestions on keeping my protein up??
MeadowLily
Your portions are really low. This sounds more like a 1000 cal day than a Whole 30. Your schedule is demanding. If I were you, I would invest in some great quality GF Beef Jerky. Stick some in zippies and have some at 11:00 am. We make our own jerky with GF beef, elk, and moose. It's brain food and would keep you up and running all day on your feet. A cup of vege is very small. Roast a variety of vege in your oven with good fats, I would eat those cold right out of a zippie while I was on the run. Protein. Vegetables. Good Fats. You deserve the very best, Amanda. Strive for 2-3 cups vege - 3 X aday.
Amanda ho
Yes I am struggling to get over 1000 calories a day.I keep a log on my lose it just so I know how much I am taking in.I have added a whole avocado to at least 1 meal a day to increase fats. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that. I will add more veggies. I love veggies so that is easy. I will look at our health store for the beef jerky. I'm am open to trying anything. I don't want to quit bc I want to be healthy and there are about 5 of us at work doing it and I can't quit!!
MeadowLily
Noooo. You don't want to quit. If your health food store doesn't have any jerky, you can order it online.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted February 18, 2015 Moderators Share Posted February 18, 2015 A serving of eggs is as many as you can hold in your hand - for most people that is 3 or 4. Two isn't enough. Many people also find that eggs alone aren't as filling as eggs with some meat. You might try that combination. Add another veggie to your Meal 1. Frozen broccoli is great as you can microwave it in three minutes or so. And remember, don't skimp on the fat! For optimum results, you'll want to follow The Meal Template. One to two palms of protein, 1 - 3 cups of veggies, and the prescribed fat amounts - this is for every single meal. And these are the MINIMUM recommendations. Since you have a job where you spend a lot of time on your feet you'll likely need a bit more. If you work out, even more. Keep experimenting and increasing the amounts until you can go 5 hours or so without feeling hungry. Please, do not log your food in relation to calories. The Whole30 asks you to forgo that during this 30 days. We want you to nourish your body and not calculate calories. This is also part of changing your relationship with food and the psychology surrounding that process. Amanda ho
Thanks for the advice. I will quit logging and start eating. I usually only go 2 hours without being hungry. I am trying to do it right just not succeeding quite yet.
