Derval
Looking good, how was the beef? worth a try?
Jenny Robinson
So Day 2 lunch ended up just being the salad with veggies, and I ate the beef for dinner along with an italian sausage from the market that was amazing. Derval - I really like the PR beef, I had made it twice before starting this little journey. It's definitely different, and probably not for everyone (my hubby is not a 'fan', but he tolerates it, and I caught him going for seconds once!). I, on the other hand, consider it one of my go-to meals because its pretty easy to make, the recipe makes enough to portion out for a couple days, and I find it amazing over some sweet potatoes with a touch of avocado... Day 3 has started out with a Crossfit session followed by chicken breast with a touch of avocado. It was delic!
Jenny Robinson
Woohoo! Day 8. I've had lots of yummy meals, and some that were kind of boring because I ate leftovers two meals in a row or something lol. Anything to be compliant... With the long weekend, I've been able to regroup a little bit and think of some different meals...and the most important part, prepare for them so this week goes smoothly. I had a couple of challenging scenarios this week with 2 lunches at restaurants (scary) and 1 social gathering/bbq...I think I made it out unscathed. For the restaurants, I planned ahead and asked lots of questions, and warned the people I was going out with that I'm probably going to be 'that patron' that asks 803 questions even though I did my research. For the bbq, I ate before hand, and stuck to the veggies/wholly guacamole, with a little bit of fruit. What I realized is that I am SO fortunate to be surrounded by supportive people. I have been incredibly lucky to have not had a single person give me that look like "oh, fatty's on diet #89" - but then again, how do you argue against eating nothing but whole, unprocessed food. I am also very nerdy (I am, after all, a scientist who researches what cortisol does to the brain) - so I have my arsenal of facts lined up just in case. Debbie B
Jenny, you are doing SO WELL! Way to plan ahead for those meals out - I have to do that, too! I'm on Day 8, as well - onward!
Aberrantatavia
Prep is really key, isn't it? Sounds like things are going really well! I too am surrounded by supportive people, which is a huge blessing. I had to laugh - literally out loud - at your "fattys on another diet" statement. I wonder how many people in my life think that to themselves, even if they don't say it. Lol Your work sounds incredibly interesting! I know just the basics about cortisol and I'm astounded at the ramifications on one's system. Keep up the good work, you are almost a third of the way there! Jenny Robinson
Just had a super yummy meal. Some leftover sausage plus some amazing coleslaw, with some green peppers and strawberries. So yummy. Yesterday I had made some deviled eggs for breakfasts this week...heavenly.
sushifan
Love your log (and your beautiful pooch)! I'm a week or so behind you. And I'm only on diet #82 or so, so I'm behind you there, too What kind of sausage did you use? I love sausage but don't want to trip myself up. I also need to find these Paleo-compliant mayos and such that everyone else is using. I'm eating all dry stuff for now.
mariegray
Hi Jenny, Can you say anything about day 6? I'm kicking and screaming my way through day 6, and I haven't seen anyone post specifically about it. Maybe it's just an off day for me. Thanks. Jenny Robinson
Sushi - I make my own mayo! Super easy - if you have a blender, olive oil (light tasting, not extra virgin), an egg and some spices, you can makes your too...and then you can use it as the base for many delicious dressings (ranch, dreamy avocado, etc). There are recipes in the 'It Starts With Food' (ISWF) book as well as 'Well-Fed'. As for the sausages, I've actually found a couple of brands. If you have a Whole Foods or an Earth Fare it can definitely make the selection process easier - and just label reading. But if I have any left in the package, I'll be sure to take note of the brand and kind (a key thing with sausage: don't assume that the brand always means that every sausage they make will be Whole30 compliant - there's one brand that their 'normal' sausage is not W30 compliant, but their apple-somethingorother is!). Thanks for the compliments on my pooch - he's pretty stellar Marie - I think everyone experiences things on a little different time scale...your day 6 may be like my day 8...or my day 2. Everyday that goes by, though, it does get easier. Remember that old adage? Two steps forward, and one step back? Sometimes I feel it characterizes this journey for me in terms of how I feel. My strategy has been to focus on small victories on those 'rough' days. And I may even snack on something W30 compliant in between meals if I'm really feeling icky. But that has only happened once during the whole process, and I kept the snack to veggies. I found distracting myself also helped....a lot. Luckily, I have the attention span of a flea so it doesn't take much....
Jenny Robinson
PS - Breakfast today = deviled eggs...which was preceded by a CrossFit workout that almost killed me (dramatic, much?). Because I was so close to death (), I also indulged in a small portion of raspberries... Lunch = Spring mix, leftover chicken that I heated up, some green/red pepper strips, dreamy avocado dressing, small portion of blueberries

I had an AWFUL day yesterday and my stomach STILL seems to be really upset with me...LOL . Today is my day 7, and as for small victories, my stomach (above my waistline) is about half the size that it was last wednesday...so at least the bloat is gone!!! Thanks again. :-)Marie
