MuchAdo26
I'm on day 6, and am not sure what to do from here. Since day 4, I've had tons of nausea (like the worst of morning sickness, but I am definitely not pregnant), and now it's moved on to terrible diarrhea. It's thankfully my day off from work, but I don't know how I will be able to function at the office tomorrow if this continues. I've read everything I can find about the stomach issues at this stage, and I've tried starchy veggies and probiotics, but nothing is kicking in. I have no reason to think it's a bug or food poisoning. I started the Whole30 as an exercise in mindful eating-- I don't have chronic health issues, I'm not looking to lose weight. My pre-Whole30 diet was mainly whole foods, but with much less meat (maybe 50% vegetarian-- lots of legumes). I haven't had cravings for forbidden foods. I feel like I could keep going, apart from the stomach issues. I don't think the plan itself is hard, but if the side effects are going to interfere with my ability to function, that is a problem for me. Any guidance? For reference, here's my eating log from days 4 and 5. (And since I've been reading the forum nonstop, I am aware that this is probably not enough food or fat, but I am on my first try, and my appetite has been low since the nausea kicked in.) Breakfast: chicken sausage, sweet potato, orange Lunch: pork chop, sweet potato, carrots, olives, banana, strawberries Dinner: Asian beef lettuce wraps (no soy), carrots, red pepper Breakfast: chicken sausage, sautéed potatoes, carrots, banana Lunch: roast beef, whole sweet potato, orange, olives Dinner: pot roast, broccoli, carrots, almonds Plus water. Thanks-- any guidance would be appreciated.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted February 23, 2015 Administrators Share Posted February 23, 2015 Is it possible that you've come down with something? Violent nausea and diarrhea are not typical side effects of the Whole30. Sometimes when folks make a shift to the Whole30, the "stress" of the change can run the body down a bit and make you susceptible to colds and flus that are going around. MuchAdo26
I don't think so... there are colds going around at home and work, but nothing like this. And my immune system is generally pretty good (three kids). My husband is doing the plan as well, and our meals have been essentially the same (sometimes different veggies), and he's just having the mild stomach issues that seem typical. I really don't know what to do at this point.
Krista Billows Rodriguez
What is in the chicken sausage? Have you started eating any foods that are new to you? I know you had a whole food diet prior to starting your W30, but have you added any foods or spices that you were not previously consuming? MuchAdo26
The chicken sausage is compliant-- the wrapper is gone now, but I checked everything. Nothing new, other than scrambled eggs for breakfast on days 1 and 3. Weird, I know, but I've never liked eggs. It was hard to get them down, even with adding veg and spices. Everything else has been par for the course. Thanks for your input!
MuchAdo26
Just to update— things finally settled down after I ate a piece of dry toast. So this attempt is officially over, but many of my meals will still be compliant as my husband continues. I've already become used to no snacking, so I'm going to keep that up as well. Maybe another time...
