lgt2013
Day 2. Not great sleep last night. I must have drank too much tea/water all day because I was up 3 times for bathroom trips! Once is normal, but 3 times is ridiculous. Meal 1: Sausage and veggie scramble with kale, bell pepper, onion and mushrooms, topped with guacamole and cholula Green tea Meal 2: Leftover chicken "tacos"; sweet potato drizzled w olive oil Meal 3: Burger patty w/ homemade mayo, broccoli bagna cauda, sweet potato 2 mile walk w Titus, Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit Hoping for better sleep tonight! lgt2013
Last week was really hard. On Wednesday (day 3), I found out that my 44-yr-old neighbor/landlord commited suicide Tuesday. We weren't really close, but I saw him on a regular basis on our dog walks and we would always stop to chit-chat and I've known him and his family for the 8 years I've been here. I am still in a state of disbelief. It was really difficult not to tank my Whole 30 and go out for drinks/food with friends. I feel like such a hermit when I'm on a Whole30 because there are so few options for food, and in this situation, I'm not sure I could have refused a drink if I went out. So instead I have stayed home alone, and have kept all my meals compliant, although a few not template because I just wasn't hungry for a few days. Something about Mondays signify a fresh start to me. I cooked up a couple recipes from Nom Nom Paleo yesterday, so I have food ready for the next few days. lgt2013
Thanks! It's nice to have support here Day 8: M1: Spanish eggs M2: Cod w/ half avocado, curried cream of broccoli soup M3: Beef tenderloin w/ bernaise, mixed green salad w/ tomato and cucumber & red wine vinaigrette E: 2-mile walk; Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance Last night I had my first whole30 dream -- I dreamt I was sampling microbrews with a friend and instead of sampler sizes, they were giving us full-sized beers. In the dream, I felt totally guilty about breaking my whole30. I don't even like beer!!! It would be one of the absolute last things that would cause me to break my whole30. Well, that and soda. I'd way rather have cupcakes or donuts or wine or vodka! Crazy...
lgt2013
Day 9(yesterday): Meal 1: Sausage veggie mix. Green tea Meal 2: 4 Spicy tuna cakes w/ mayo; salad w/ sweet potatoes, walnuts, and cranberries Meal 3: GF beef patty, mayo, salad E: 1-mile snowshoe with the dog, Insanity Pure Cardio Had my best night of sleep last night in a week. Up once for the bathroom, but that's normal -- right back to sleep after. I slept a solid 8 hours. I'm going snowboarding tomorrow and will be subject to lunch at the resort. I need to do some menu research online today.
lgt2013
Today is day 10, but I got the day 8-9 symptoms of bloating and intestinal discomfort. My breakfast was the same breakfast I have frequently with no issues, so I can only chalk it up to my body making adjustments. I wasn't expecting it because I didn't think I was eating that far off whole30 before, but I guess I did have a week of indulgences before I started again. I also recently made the switch from coffee to green tea, I'm not sure if that had affected the lack of movement . So, I only had two meals as my gut felt like it would explode if I tried to eat anything around lunchtime. I didn't feel remotely hungry until 5 or 6. M1: Sausage, kale, veggie mix; green tea -- decaf coffee (hoping to get things "moving") M2: GF beef patty w/ mayo; roasted broccoli; sweet potato "fries" dipped in mayo
lgt2013
Day 11 M1: Sausage and kale mix with 2 eggs; green tea Snack: Cashew cookie Larabar (lunch was delayed, and I was snowboarding, so I did what I could) M2: Burger, lettuce wrapped with avo and roasted peppers; green salad w/ oil and vinegar M3: Nom Nom Paleo's Slow Cooker Korean Short Ribs (OMG these are so so so good! So glad I have two more servings for the next couple days!) with her coconut pineapple cauliflower rice. I don't know about everyone else, but my cauli rice always turns out a little more like cauli mash. Is there a trick to getting the moisture out? E: Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit; 2 hrs snowboarding Lunch was at a restaurant at the mountain, not much from which to choose so I went with the fallback burger no bun. They had fajitas on the menu, but I just wasn't in the mood to drill the server for every last ingredient in the seasoning. So it was a burger or a salad. I had both , Kinda feel like I'm cruising along on this whole30. I have a few social engagements over the next few nights where I would normally be drinking. It will be interesting to see how that goes. At least I can be the sober driver!
lgt2013
Day 13 today. I went to a concert last night -- kinda weird to be there without a cocktail. It went until midnight so I am super tired today. I had a decent breakfast and lunch, but I still want to bury my face in a pile of cupcakes. Or brownies. Or Reese's PB cups. Ugh. If I weren't whole30-ing right now, I'd have stopped at my local grocer (with an awesome bakery) for a big fat slice of German chocolate cake. I know it's just because I'm tired, but still... Day 12 (yesterday): M1: Sausage, kale, veggie mix w/ avocado; green tea M2: Leftover short ribs and cauli rice; curried cream of broccoli soup E: Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit I think the combo of cauliflower and broccoli in the same meal threw my stomach for a loop. I was pretty bloated all afternoon and couldn't bear the idea of cooking a dinner before the concert. I had the rest of my short ribs leftovers and drank water at the show. lgt2013
Day 14. Woke up this morning fantasizing about donuts with my coffee (I'm not even drinking coffee right now, have made the switch to green tea). I'm definitely in the day 12-15 spot on the timeline. Also, PMS . This afternoon I'd have given my right arm for a glass of red wine. But hey, I'm almost halfway done. Of course, I have no intention to add donuts or red wine back on the regular. Okay, maybe red wine. M1: 3 eggs, sausage, potatoes and veggies; green tea M2: steak and spinach salad with oil and vinegar Snack: Apple pie Larabar M3: 2 turkey burgers lettuce-wrapped w/ mayo; curried cream of broccoli soup. lgt2013
Day 15 -- halfway through!!! M1: 2 eggs w/ snow goose taco meat, cilantro, salsa, avocado; half caff coffee M2: Cod w/ mayo, green salad w/ tomato and cucumber, curried cream of broccoli soup M(?)3: 1 hardboiled egg, raspberries, apple pie Larabar, turkey burger patty w/ mayo E: Insanity fit test I know meal 3 looks weird, but I wait tables part time and sometimes it's just not possible to have a template meal. So I try to keep it compliant and try to get some veggies in there, but tonight it just didn't happen. Good news is I'm not waiting again until Saturday. lgt2013
Day 16. Still having some cravings, or possibly new ones because it's PMS time. I was daydreaming about German chocolate cake earlier today, as well as creamy chocolate, and I just salivated while reading an article about wine -- even after a very satisfying dinner. M1: breakfast "tacos" -- 3 eggs with taco meat in lettuce, w/ salsa and avocado; coffee M2ish: Cashews, cherry Larabar -- caught with just emergency supplies. I thought I'd be home from work early today. M3: 6 meatballs w tomato basil sauce over zoodles. Very full now. lgt2013
Day 18. Today was a major whole30 template fail! I guess I didn't have enough food at lunch because I was craving sweets all afternoon. I came home and had a larabar (fail), and then ate 5 meatballs, then had 2 cups of decaf coffee which had just enough caffeine to provide an appetite suppressant. So of course I wasn't hungry for dinner at dinnertime, and ended up eating dinner at 9 pm. M1: Asparagus, kale, peppers and mushroom with sausage and guacamole; green tea M2: Taco salad -- taco-seasoned meat over spring mix w/ salsa and guac Snack: larabar, 5 meatballs, decaf coffee M3: Turkey burger patty w/ mayo, zoodles w marinara Yesterday I did the Costco/Trader Joe's/Whole Foods circuit (they are an hour away), so I have a fridge full of veggies and meat, I just have to get to cooking it all up. PS I was happy to find compliant meatballs at Costco and compliant coconut amino-based teriyaki sauce at Whole Foods. 3 Whole30's in and I'm still discovering new stuff! lgt2013
Oh and I had lunch at Whole Foods yesterday. I assumed it would be kinda easy to put together a Whole30 meal at their self-serve stations -- wrong! Even the stuff in their "Paleo bar" had non-compliant ingredients (bacon, mostly). It's nice that they list the ingredients on everything so I don't have to drill the employees. The protein options were limited to roasted turkey, hard-boiled eggs, and plain tuna. I got the turkey, some roasted asparagus, sauteed kale with almonds, roasted cauli/garlic mash, and butternut squash. Almost no fats available, so I drizzled olive oil over the kale and turkey. lgt2013
Day 19. Good day today. Great sleep last night, woke up naturally at 7 (still trying to adjust to daylight savings ). No tiger blood, but I don't really remember feeling it the first two whole30's either. M1: Sausage w/ kale, mushrooms, peppers and guacamole; green tea M2: Green salad w/ fennel, orange, avocado, and champagne vinaigrette; 5 Aidells meatballs w/ marinara; 1/2 sweet potato w/ ghee -- no chance of being hungry after lunch today!! M3: Chicken teriyaki w/ asparagus, bell pepper, and mushrooms over cauli rice; kombucha E: Insanity Pure Cardio
lgt2013
Oh, Kombucha, not a good idea. Tummy does not like . That's definitely out, which is fine because it is not cheap.
lgt2013
Day 20. Finally starting to feel a little of the tiger blood today. I woke up easily before 7, plenty of energy all day. No afternoon crash like I usually experience. M1: Sausage and veggies w/ guacamole; green tea M2: Green salad w/ red wine vinaigrette; leftover chicken stir-fry w/ veggies over cauli rice M3: 6 meatballs; the rest of the chicken stir-fry leftovers; handful of walnuts <--- was waiting tables through dinner. I still think about sweet treats a lot, like brownies all the time. I'm planning to start reintroductions on Day 31, but will consider myself mostly on the whole30 outside of reintros. I did my first one primarily to defeat the sugar dragon and failed miserably after I finished. Things were better after the second, but only until the holidays and I had trouble getting back to my whole30 ways after Jan. I'm pretty sure I'll still be fighting the sugar dragon well after day 30.
lgt2013
Day 21 M1: 3 eggs scrambled topped with guac and hot sauce, 2 sausage patties; green tea M2ish: 6 meatballs, 1 roasted sweet potato snack: larabar M3: Potato-crusted cod, cauliflower garlic mash, and roasted broccoli Today was my neighbor's memorial, which is why I had such a weird meal 2. Just wasn't feeling much like cooking or putting a meal together, so I sort of browsed the fridge.
lgt2013
Day 22. I am still fighting the sugar dragon every day. I know that fight is going to go much longer than 30 days. M1: 5 meatballs; mixed veggies -- kale, bell peppers, mushrooms, onion w/ guacamole; green tea M2: 5 meatballs; leftover roasted broccoli and cauli mash with ghee; half caff coffee snack: 1/2 avocado -- I really really really wanted a larabar but recognized that that is a problem, so half an avocado it was. M3: fish "tacos" -- blackened cod with bell peppers, mushrooms, & onion in lettuce wraps with guacamole & mayo I see that Larabars have become a problem for me. I didn't really care one way or other about them before I started this whole30, but lately I've been using them as a crutch. No more! Also, those compliant meatballs from Costco have become FWNB for me so I won't be buying those again. They are all gone now, otherwise I would have had a lot more than 10 today! Krista Billows Rodriguez
Those darn bars are keeping the sugar dragon awake! There is so much sugar in them, natural or not, that it creates a vicious craving cycle
lgt2013
Yes, I agree. I'm not touching them for a while. Believe it or not, there was a time when I just couldn't think about another Larabar -- they all have the same taste profile. I think it's because they're the only sweet thing I'm allowed right now. But then that's the problem. So no more. Day 23 M1: Sausage w/ kale, asparagus, bell peppers, mushrooms, onion, w/ guacamole; green tea M2: Chicken fajitas in lettuce wraps with peppers mushrooms and onion and guacamole Snack: can of sardines (this is when I was fighting another Larabar craving) M3: Corned beef and cabbage I was waiting tables tonight and the corned beef and cabbage they were serving was compliant! They were normally serving it with garlic chive mashed potatoes, which of course had cream and butter so I skipped those. Happy to not miss out entirely on the holiday. lgt2013
Ugh, day 24 and so tired this morning. I ate dinner a little late last night (an issue with waiting tables), so that might be the problem, but I'm also expecting my period soon. Hopefully today so those stupid chocolate and salt cravings will be over for a few weeks!
lgt2013
Day 24 M1: Kale, sweet potato, bell peppers, onion, mushrooms sauteed, leftover fajita chicken, topped with 2 eggs; green tea AND coffee! M2: Leftover fajita chicken, bell peppers, onion and mushrooms in lettuce w/ salsa and guac; leftover cabbage M3: 2 burger patties w/ mayo; balsamic Brussels sprouts; sweet potato w/ ghee I'm feeling the need for coffee in the morning because it seems to be the only thing that gets me "moving", ahem. I should probably look into some magnesium supplements Feeling MAJOR food fatigue. Absolutely nothing appealed to me for dinner. I'm at that point where I couldn't think of a single compliant item that I would want to eat. Tonight I'm diving into my cookbooks to find something that might interest me for tomorrow.
