lcs75
Hi All, I am on my 4th day of my first Whole30 and I feel like I have gone backwards 12 months, where I could not sleep due to stomach cramps, bowel movements and excessive wind Another reason for concern is that I have lost my appettite - I have had this before and it is scary for me, as I have a healthy appettite and when I need to sit down and make myself eat, I hate that feeling. I was on a wheat/gluten free diet before starting the Whole30, I did not eat much processed food (salami and cheese) and I am generellay eating quite healthy (home grown veggies, meat from local farmer). Cutting dairy out was my biggest challenge. What I have eaten in various combinations since I started: Bananas and peaches Eggs Bacon, sausages, mince beef, chicken, roast pork Potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweetcorn Onions, carrots, capsicum, tomatoes, zucchini, leek Coconut oil, coconut flour, shredded coconut Almonds and macadamia Cinnamon and chilli 1 cup of black coffee a day Green tea Is this just a phase that will pass? Do I need to cut out nightshades? Due to the current season (in Australia) our garden is full of tomatoes and capsicum, so I eat them more often at the moment. I have not increased my nut intake much, so would not think it is that, nor is my veggie intake much higher as I have always had tons of veggies. Would really appreciate to hear from your experiences. Thanks x
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted March 3, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 3, 2015 Hi Leila, Sorry you are having troubles and not feeling well. Sweet corn is not allowed on your Whole30, it is not a vegetable, but a grain. You might want to review the Whole30 Rules here: http://whole30.com/whole30-program-rules/ Can you detail what you have eaten at each meal respectively? We may be able to make some helpful recommendations. Aside from the corn, one thing that jumps out at me is the coconut. Have you eaten that regularly or as I suspect is it new to you? Many people find coconut products make them "windy" and crampy. We generally recommend that you do a standard, regular Whole30 before determining whether you need a more specialized approach like AIP, but if you think you have issues after eating nightshades, absolutely swap them out for other veggies, there are so many to try! For the best results, always eat each meal according to the Meal Template, which means 1 -2 palm sized portion of protein, 1 -3 cups of vegetables and 2 thumbs portion of cooking fat. These are the minimum recommendations. (Click the meal template link in my signature below for a helpful pictorial.) Good luck and hope you feel better soon. lcs75
Thanks tor your reply I will cut back on quantitites of nightshades, but leave them in for now. I will see if it gets better in the next few days as I am away for business and can cut them out completely while I am not home. I have been eating coconut for a while, it ia not new to my diet. Yesterday I ate the following: Banana with nut butter before pilates. Handful of nuts in the morning. Mashed sweet potato with parsnip and coconut cream Beef mince with tomato, capsicum, zucchini, spring onion and tabasco 2 peaches Roast chicken with sweetcorn and potato I have 3 generous meals (the tiny breakfast I had is unusual for me, normally it would more look like 2 eggs, 1 banana, coconut cream and nuts). And I have increased food quantities when cutting the dairy out as the first 2 days I did not have energy. Thanks and have a great day
GFChris
Nuts might not be your stomach's friend. Try dropping them and see if that helps. Also, the recommended pre workout food is protein and fat. No fruit.
Physibeth
I have 3 generous meals (the tiny breakfast I had is unusual for me, normally it would more look like 2 eggs, 1 banana, coconut cream and nuts). And I have increased food quantities when cutting the dairy out as the first 2 days I did not have energy. Your normal first meal I would say is pretty tiny as well. Unless you have child sized hands a serving of eggs should be at least 3 and probably 4. I am only 5'4" and I can hold 4 whole large eggs. Add 1-3 cups of vegetables to at least one more egg and that is a better serving size for meal 1. I agree with Chris on cutting out nuts to see if that helps. Low energy the first few days is quite normal.
