cherip88
Tartaric acid is an ingredient in my dijon mustard and I can't find anything about it in the forums. Is it okay? I am hoping to use the mustard in a salad dressing. Thank you!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted August 29, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 29, 2012 Most Dijon mustards include wine, which would make it unacceptable during a Whole30. Tartaric acid is a byproduct of wine making that is used to add a sour taste to foods (among other things). It is not a healthy ingredient, but since it is not one of the three food additives banned during a Whole30, you could eat a product containing it. For more info, I liked the article at http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-tartaric-acid.htm. The three banned food additives? Carrageenan, MSG and sulfites. Susan W
I buy Westbrae Natural (really easy to find) and it contains distilled vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt and spices.
jhmomi
The Whole Foods 365 Organic Dijon Mustard contains: Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Water, Organic Mustard Seed, Salt, Organic Spices. I love this forum. It makes it so much easier to discover good clean options to replace the ones that we all used to buy.
