jeanneb
I am feeling stumped and limited by newly discovered allergies, including cashews and coconut. I don't like olives and I wish I could eat avocado, yet it gives me such terrible gas to the point of nausea I stopped eating it long ago. All thoughts and suggestions welcome as I do not want to avoid eating fats at all or get stuck in a rut of almonds and almond butter. Thanks! Moderators ShannonM816 Posted March 10, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 10, 2015 Can you eat eggs? If so, I'd recommend making some mayo -- it's good on pretty much everything just as it is, and it can be used to make creamy dressings for salads. Ghee or clarified butter can be used to cook in, or can be drizzled over vegetables. You can choose fattier cuts of meat or fattier fish like salmon, or if you can find compliant bacon, it's a fat source. Drizzle olive oil over salads, or use it to make sauces like Chimichurri, Pesto, or Moroccan Dipping Sauce. Drizzle sesame oil over cooked vegetables. There are other kinds of oils you can try -- macadamia nut oil, walnut oil, avocado oil (I don't know if this would affect you the same way whole avocado does or not, so you may not want to try it). Look for recipes for sauces and salad dressings that are Whole30 compliant. Try The Clothes Make The Girl or Nom Nom Paleo for ideas. If you really don't want to make your own, there are a few brands out there that you could order, like Tessemae's (that link goes to their Whole30 approved section, but note that not everything they make is Whole30, so if you find them in stores, read the labels). MBC
Try to use the coconut oils, ghee, maybe find a duck fat. Macadamia nuts yum!
Tina R
So if I read your post correctly you can't have olive oil, avocado oil or coconut oil? I am not sure if you can make mayo but you might want to get some ghee, lard, tallow or duck fat. Checkout Fatworks.com to order. Good luck! GFChris
Can you eat macadamia nuts? Macadamia nut oil is a possibility for both cooking and making mayo.
jeanneb
Thank you all.. so, I can use olive oil, just discovered ghee and will look into other suggestions. Thank you for the links to some great recipies and cool products I have not heard of. I'm also thinking that I am overestimating (aka not attuned with measurements) the amount of eating fat I am supposed to consider.
jeanneb
Oh, and yay! I found sugar free bacon and the meat guy at Whole Foods said he is getting a sugar free sausage together which will be available by the end of this week!
