kim22
I suffer from IBS but have never managed to completely pin down the triggers. My digestion has been reasonably settled since I started my whole 30 (now on day 25), I've lost weight, sleep better and have more energy. However, last night I had a large portion of ratatouille (aubergine, red pepper, tomatoes, courgettes and onions) plus potatoes and it seems to have triggered my IBS. All of these foods are, of course allowed on whole 30, but reading online I find that many of these foods are 'nightshades' and have been known to trigger IBS. Has anyone else found these foods to be a problem? Should I cut them out of my diet for a week or two and then re-introduce them? I was so pleased with the way things were going, but now I feel a bit miffed at the set back.
kim22
I meant to say, I am also now suffering from an aching hip which is something I get from time to tome, but have not had at all during my whole30 until this point. It may or may not be related.
Physibeth
Have you eaten other similarly heavy nightshade meals at other times during your Whole30? That really is a nightshade bomb. If you really want to know the best thing would be to continue whole30 for an additional 30 days with no nightshades and then reintroduce them as you would any other food group removed (one at a time with compliant days in between). You can tack this on to your current 30 and reintros or you can finish this one and it's reintros and do another at some point with nightshades removed. kim22
I have eaten other nightshades occasionally during this whole30, but perhaps not in such large quantities. I think I might try cutting them out until the end of this one and probably beyond, then re-introduce them carefully as you suggest. Thanks for your advice.
