Awenydd
I will be on Day 28 when I have to go to a 40th birthday party of a good friend. I have already made it through one birthday party staying straight on my Whole30. Well, I am pretty sure I had a few extra pieces of fruit than perhaps I should. It was hard - and "not having" is (sadly) one of my stand out memories of the day. So, I am trying to come up with a survival plan for this 40th. I reckon I can survive not drinking, if I buy the expensive Pellegrino sparkling water (and add lemon juice & ice & waterford chrystal glasses). Most of the food I should be ok to avoid - if I have my own little container of treats. So, I am seriously considering going SWYPO. I am currently doing the AIP plan - so, have had no nuts or eggs for the Whole30. I can do melon wrapped proscuitto, banana & coconut balls, smoked salmon on veggie fritters (arrowroot for binding only), proscuitto, some sort of salami, brocolini, carrot sticks & an artichoke dip etc. Totally SWYPO - but strictly speaking, food complaint. Thoughts? A) No No - dont do it. Nice one - very practical.
Hannlib
For me what you describe isn't full on swypo. That for me would be pancakes, waffles, muffins, cookies, cakes, buns and biscuits. But anyway. That said, why? why not just take a container of snacks - veg sticks, prosciutto, devilled eggs, guacamole, cooked chicken, olives, some berries. All compliant, all delicious, not swypo. I suspect sticking to simple compliant whole foods in this scenerio will make you feel less deprived than trying to replicate party food.
evaq
Definitely not SWYPO in my books. You're making good food choices based on what's available while also celebrating your friend's birthday. I would still try to make sure my food template ratios are fulfilled if possible ie. palmful of protein, 1-3 cups of vegetables, thumbful of fat. And if needed, have some back-up eggs (at the ready at home) if you need to round out your protein. Also be careful of the artichoke dip - it will likely have dairy and sugar. Most important: Have fun at the party!
Moderators LadyM Posted March 24, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 24, 2015 I agree that what you propose isn't SWYPO, and that you should triple check that everything you plan to eat is compliant.
MeadowLily
How about a fancy schmancy almond tucked into a date wrapped with bacon for a horse diver? Dates are a great way to add that hint of sweetness to a sauce (like the Char Siu pork from Well Fed), or stuffed with almonds and wrapped in (compliant) bacon as a fancy-schmancy appetizer. - See more at: http://whole30.com/2013/06/the-official-can-i-have-guide-to-the-whole30/#sthash.F1OBrHs2.dpuf
MeadowLily
Posted by Johnny M on 10 December 2012 - 10:23 PM I made deviled eggs tonight before I even saw this post! I experimented a little and they were delicious. I used homemade mayo, smoked paprika, dijon mustard, white wine vinegar, and...drumroll...crumbled bacon! Does everyone know that trick? I don't often make these so it was news to me and it was amazing.
MeghanOD77
Deviled Eggs... Mmmm!!! I'm making them soon. I have a recipe from nomnompaleo. Can't wait. Haven't made homemade mayo yet, but need that to get the deviled eggs. Have all the ingredients. Now just need some extra time.
Awenydd
Thanks so much for caring and giving me your time, peeps!! Totally awesome!! So, this is my first Whole30 - and I selected the AIP menu version (I have fibro) - so no eggs, nuts, tomatoes (yet). Eggs are going to be the FIRST thing I am going to introduce on day 1 of reintroduction. Pretty funny that the banana & coconut balls sure feel like naughty sweet yummo naughtiness to me. How much has my life changed, eh? I really really appreciate your input - I was seriously considering not going - if it wasn't for the birthday coming up, I would easily make the last 6 days. I am most definitely including the guacamole, check my food ratios, triple check my ingredients (sugar in my bacon is still a shock), the date and bacon horsey doovers (sans almond, probably with prosciutto as I have not found SF bacon yet) sounds awesome. Again - thanks for your time and caring, all - I am really grateful - I'm all relaxed now and plotting away at my little platter of awesomeness. xx
