Is it normal to be thinking about an ice cream sundae for Day 31?

Recommended Posts

I am on my 28th day and have stuck to the Whole 30 plan so far. It has been relatively easy for me to avoid my favorite foods which are cakes with icing, icecream and fresh whipped cream. I knew they were off limits, and I wanted to be 100% compliant. I would like to repeat the Whole 30 beginning on Day 32 which would be April 6. My last day is April 4th. I feel like a treat of an ice cream sundae on April 5th (Day 31) is all I need to keep me on track for another 30 days. Is this normal? I am really looking forward to it!!

Why are you planning to repeat the W30? This article might be worth a read for you.

I am very happy with my mood change from the Whole 30. I dont want that to stop. Also it holds me accountable and keeps me from eating even one bite of a food I shouldn't eat. I have a special occasion on May 16, so if I start another Whole 30 right away I will not be on it by the time of my special occasion. I still have cravings for yummy desserts but I am very selective now in what it would be worth eating. I think I can enjoy one serving and be content, but I don't quite trust myself with that.

If you decide to have the sundae and then start another Whole30 the following day, take note of any physical/psychological reactions to the sundae on your new day 1 and 2.

Can sugar effect mood changes? How would I know if the effect was from dairy or sugar??

Yes, sugar can affect mood changes.

Unfortunately, when you combine off-plan ingredients in a single reintroduction, if you have a reaction, you won't be able to identify the culprit.  That's why the reintroduction schedule recommends having distinct reintro days dedicated to individual food groups.

Also consider a sundae is likely to contain soy lecithin too, from either the ice cream and/or the chocolate.

The only way to conquer those cravings for dessert is to vehemently refrain from eating desserts. If you choose to continue without a "break" to indulge in ice cream, you're more likely to get closer to slaying that sugar dragon. That's what I would recommend. Or simply finish your W30, do reintroductions, and make some well-informed choices about how to keep those improved moods for the rest of your life.

The Whole 30 is only 30 days. That's what most W30r's may need going forward.  The Food Reset revealed their food sensitivities or problem foods and now they know.

For those starting out with far more than the freshman 10 or 15....30 days may not be not enough. Taking a break for me or returning to sugar/refined carbs wouldn't help my pancreas heal from T2.  I've reached the sugar crossroads. No amount of off-roading with sugar will make me feel better or give me a better quality of life going forward.

I'd rather live without it and than with it.  Dipping my toes back into the sugar and stirring that Sugar Dragon back up from his sugary coma...even periodically would take away from rather than add to my progress.  I've set my boundaries.
