Lola.k
So, I made it all the way through the Whole30 (YAY ME!), but I still had some things that I wanted to work on, so I decided to keep going. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was on medication for about 6 months that completely took away my appetite, so when I started the Whole30, I was barely eating at all. On day 30 I came off that medication, which is one of the reasons I decided to keep going (I wanted to give myself a solid foundation so that my body could function when it wasn't relying on the meds anymore). But, for the last feverish days, I have been RAVENOUS, especially at dinner. I don't know if this is a function of my appetite finally coming back, or if it has to do with my Whole30 extension, but it's driving me crazy, and I would really appreciate any input. Today's meals looked like: 3 eggs, steamed carrots, coffee blended with coconut oil (~1tbsp) 2 chicken thighs, steamed cabbage, baked plantain, guacamole (~1/4 cup) Zucchini noodles with almond flour crumbles, ground pork, tomatoes, olives And then... After dinner I was still hungry so I ate: 1 banana, 1 apple, almond butter, macadamia nut butter, cashew butter, coconut whip (Just as a side note, the amount of nuts and nut butters I ate today is rare. I usually avoid them, but for the past couple days it feels like my body is really craving the extra calories or something, because I keep reaching for them!) HELP! Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 8, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2015 Your system is probably trying to find its balance. Go ahead and eat more for awhile. Add a fourth meal or increase the size of your basic meals. You may need to add more starchy veggies. I find that sweet potatoes can really satisfy me some days. Administrators ladyshanny Posted April 8, 2015 Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2015 If you are truly hungry after dinner you are going to be in a much, MUCH better place if you just eat either a portion of or an entire second dinner rather than 2 fruits and four different kind of nut butters. Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted April 8, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2015 You didn't mention how big your portions were, I find I need 2 - 3 cups veggies and a little extra fat to keep me humming along. Remember the Meal Template recommendations are minimums. I second Tom's suggestion to include some starchy veggies especially at the evening meal. You can do this! Lola.k
Thanks for all the advice. My portions of veggies are usually pretty big; filling up most of the plate. Probably around 2-3 cups. I've usually been following the minimums, with some extra fats on occasion. Are starchy vegetables better eaten at the end of the day, as opposed to in the morning or with lunch? Administrators ladyshanny Posted April 8, 2015 Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2015 Are starchy vegetables better eaten at the end of the day, as opposed to in the morning or with lunch? Some folks say yes. For some, eating those starchies in the first half of the day leaves them seeking other sweets/carbs all dya long. Late day starchy veggies can also help with sleep.
