Elysewhole30
Not sure how this works but I am reintroducting foods next week and planning my meal schedule. For dairy, I know one of the examples to try is ice cream on the blog, but ice cream typically has other non compliant additives. Is that okay? For example, if I wanted to go to chickfila and get a cup of ice cream, is that okay to do? My schedule is: Day 1, legumes - peanut butter, hummus, and soy sauce Day 4, dairy - cheese and ice cream Day 7, non gluten grains - corn tortilla chips and gluten free pretzels Day 10, gluten grains - whole wheat bagel Does this sound good? Thanks!
shortystylee
Elyse, that's about the gist of it! You want to reintroduce a different group, wait a couple of days and see how you feel, and then try another group. Some of the groups you may even want to break up further if you are really curious - for example: Day 1 dairy milk, Day 4 dairy yogurt, Day 7 dairy hard cheeses, etc. since you may get very different reactions for one or the other. Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2015 It is okay to treat ice cream as dairy even though it also includes sugar. Most people do not need a separate reintroduction for sugar. You might want to keep soy separate from everything else. Some people respond badly to soy, but not to other legumes. Moderators LadyM Posted April 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2015 Personally, I separated peanuts as well as soy from other legumes and gave them their own reintroduction days because they're known to be so problematic separate from other legumes. Plus, I was really interested in eating my beloved mung beans and red lentils now and again and didn't want soy and peanuts contaminating my experiment. lgt2013
Soy sauce has gluten. To reintro just soy, use tamari sauce (wheat-free soy sauce) or other soy products like tofu.
jent103
You can have ice cream, but I'd steer clear of Chick-Fil-A's for reintro purposes (or any other fast food place). As you noticed, it's not just milk/cream and sugar; there's cornstarch, artificial flavors, carrageenan and other stuff in there too that you might possibly have a reaction to. It would be better if you went to a really good ice cream place with great ingredients, or got a brand with a short list of ingredients from the grocery store, like those little pints of Haagen-Dazs. The idea is to separate things out really well so that if you do have a reaction, you know exactly what it's tied to. http://www.chick-fil-a.com/Food/Menu-Detail/Icedream#?details=ingredients vs http://www.haagendazs.us/Products/Product/2473
