On call 24 hours

Not sure if this is the best place since we haven't started our whole30 yet.  My husband is on call for 24 hours once a week and from Friday morning to Monday morning once a month.  Usually he drinks coke when he gets tired at night, he does not drink coffee and barely drinks tea without sugar.  I was hoping for some ideas for what he can do when out all night now before it sabotages our whole 30.  His weekend on will be our end of 2nd week.

I am not worried about the food aspect as much as the fact he could leave the house at 6 am on Friday and not be home again until sometimes Saturday morning. and would normally drink cokes to keep going or on rare occasion a 5 hour energy.  We have talked about him needing maybe to take naps between calls.  But it is not uncommon for him to work 18+ hours when on call especially this time of year.  I was also thinking about some smaller meals to keep him going.

Right, so if he packs a cooler that will sustain him for 18 hours with appropriate mini-meals and bottled water, he's set for the worst-case scenario.  A thermos of compliant soup, chili or stew could work here as well.

GFChris, I think you might be missing the point. ;)  It's not the food that's the issue, it's the caffeine/sugar hit.  If you're functioning 18+ hrs without sleep, a mini meal will more likely put you to bed vs revving you up.

Jill, I don't have any good recommendations.  To be honest, when I'm doing W30, I have trouble working 12hr shifts after a day of other stuff.  As in, being awake 10am to 6am is pretty easy when I'm drinking caffeine...but without it, I'm struggling at midnight or 1 am.  I'm like your husband...don't like tea without sugar, only drink coffee if it's sweetened.  Maybe he could take a container of very dilute tea?  Just something with caffeine and nothing else...

I just old him he might have to start weaker and work his way up to a more potent tea for some caffeine!
