Day 12! Feeling down after tests.

Recommended Posts

Just got back some test results, 5.2 for my cholesterol which gives me a heart age of 72 years and I'm only 48! Thyroid 1.86 which means I have an under active thyroid!!!!! I can only imagine that these figures must have been far worse 12 days ago. Waiting for doctor to call. I think I might be on the whole365 for the rest of my life! Sorry bit heavy for a Friday morning.

Consider the possibility that knowing these results, though disheartening in the moment, can actually be good news. It means you have a baseline from which to improve. You know where you stand and you have the tools to change. That's actually pretty great news!

And I say this as someone who has dramatically changed her behaviors, body, and numbers for the better.

What LadyM said!  Think of it this way - you actively started working to improve your health BEFORE getting these test results.  That was the hard part.  Some people get these kinds of test results and then make a half-hearted effort to change their lifestyle when they really don't want to (and many never actually do it).   I think the next time you get your numbers checked, you will be very pleased with the results, especially since you have today's numbers to compare them to.  Don't let this get you down.

btw, I am on day 12 too.  That means we finish on Cinco de Mayo.  Ole!  :)

Don't beat yourself up. Most offices don't get lab results back the same day so think about what day your blood was actually drawn. Probably on day 11? 10? 9? That's still pretty early in the game. You're off to a great start, but your cholesterol and thyroid can't fix themselves in a week and a half. Just keep moving forward. :)

The mainstream belief that high cholesterol is bad news is not necessarily true. In fact the opposite may be true, as high cholesterol is actually correlated with both longevity and good brain functioning. And it definitely is not correlated with heart disease, despite everything we are told on a daily basis.

Two books worth reading, because i really don't expect you to take my word for it! Grain Brain by D Perlmutter and Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes - honestly, they should be required reading, IMO

Sorry about the thyroid levels :( but hopefully that will improve!
