Diet Coke Gods "release me"

I woke up this morning to get my kids up for school and my head felt like it had been struck by lightning.  I was actually dizzy walking down the hall to my sons room.  Got him up, talked for a minute.  I was like DANG my head hurts.  I did normal morning stuff for a few minutes and then said I have to lay back down for a few minutes, my head is killing me.  The light hurts my eyes, I feel shabby.  Then I got back up to make some lunch for my daughter.  I opened the fridge and seen some cans of diet coke.  It was like in a cartoon or something.  I pictured the can of soda with a face on it..wide eyes and IT WINKED AT ME,  saying "I'm waiting for you, cold and delicious"

Man am I losing my mind?

Today is day 3 of my whole 30, I cut diet coke 1 day before that.  I hadn't given it too much thought but I am actually a little dehydrated.  I have only been drinking water for the last 4 days and I feel like I have a hangover.  UGH!

Any of you pro's out there have any advice? I would love some tips,

Thanks in advance

Nadine

Know that diet coke is addictive in a major way. It's normal to feel these cravings. DO NOT GIVE IN TO THEM. Let yourself have some caffeine (unsweetened ices espresso or cold press is really nice, or green tea), make sure you stay hydrated with regular old water (sparkling water is also a nice change), and don't give in. The best cure for this is time without diet coke in your system, don't restart the clock by giving in now.

Also, know that you can do this! there was a time when I had at least one every single day, now it doesn't even cross my mind. If I'm offered some all I think is "yuck, don't want it." you will get there too.

Thanks for advice.  I always kind of thought that Diet Coke was addictive but I thought "well if that's the worst thing I'm doing today, I'm doing pretty good."  But  I am overweight, feel sluggish too often and I could go on and on.  It is a terrible feeling but I'm staying strong.  I did have 6 ounces of ice coffee (black) hoping a little caffeine might help with the headache though.  I'm also drinking extra water to get rehydrated.

Nadine - I have many chronic pop chuggers in my famiy.  One of them is nicknamed "Coke".  She drinks at least 6 cans aday. It used to be the real thing but now it's diet.   She has T2 diabetes and is still convinced that 'diet' does not affect blood sugar.

It does and it has affected her life.

Nadine, I am a recovered diet Coke addict so I know exactly how you feel!  I also used to think it wasn't the worst thing I could do - after all, it has no calories!!!  But after being away from it for a while, I can see how horrible that stuff really is.  The artificial flavors and sweeteners can't be neutral ingredients, even if you can't see or feel them harming your body, they are.

After my first Whole30 last September, I realized I am allergic to two of the ingredients in diet Coke (sodium benzoate and the artificial vanilla flavoring), yet I STILL craved it and even gave in a few times, despite the allergic reaction.  How sick is that?!?!  But I am finally at the point where it is disgusting to me now, thank goodness.  You'll get there too.  Hang in there!

As the responses above say, see it for the evil that it is.  It's a highly processed chemical concoction that was engineered by food scientists to be as addictive and craveable as possible all while being made with the absolute cheapest ingredients that they could get away with so that they could make as much money off of you as they possibly could.

Sorry that you're feeling crappy but let that be a huge sign to you that the Diet Coke was doing something nefarious in your body and now your body is trying to figure out how to go forward.  If you stay strong now you'll never have to experience this sort of withdrawal again!

Thanks for all the support everyone.  I did make it through the day without the "EVIL"  diet coke.  I made my husband put his in our extra refridgerator so I didn't have to look at it.  I added lemon to my water today to make it a little more special.  I know I shouldn't have to but I needed something refreshing.  I also normally chew lots of gum so not having that to has been wierd for me.  I've just been brushing and rinsing more.

I really have given a lot of thought today after some of these posts.  You are all right!  Diet Soda is unnatural and isn't good for anybody.  Today when I was mentioning to my husband the withdrawal that I am going through my daughter asked me "mommy can I have your diet coke if your not going to drink it"  I told her absolutely not and then proceeded to lecture her on learning from my mistakes.  After a minute she was like "forget it mom its not worth listening to this".  I laughed and said well whatever works.  lol

I finished the day nicely.  I'm staying strong.
