ConsciousDreamer
I'm on day 3 of my first Whole30, and since last night I have felt a dull, achy discomfort where I believe my liver may be (right upper abdomen, under the ribs a bit). I'm a little concerned, and am curious if it's because my diet has been so high in fat? Is this just a phase that will pass? How long can I expect it to be like this if so? Feeling pretty weird and yucky all of the sudden. Before the Whole30, I ate a TON of sugar throughout the day in addition to wholesome foods. Flavored latte, cereals, fruit smoothies, cookies, potato chips, etc). Am I just in some kind of shock? By the way, I have had almost 100% Whole30 recipes from the book and fresh veggies. Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 29, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 29, 2015 Some people who are not used to eating protein and fat report feeling as if there is a brick in their stomach, they feel bloated, and full. Taking digestive enzymes while the gut grows the bacteria it needs for digestion helps. The localized pain you are describing is nothing I've ever heard of as a response to the Whole30. FlyingCrow
Hi, I'm also a newbie, and oddly though I haven't yet started my W30 I had something similar a few days ago. For me it turned out to be wind (part of the small intestine is in that area). Another possibility is a gall stone on it's way out - that can be quite nasty. However if the pain persists you should check it out with your Doc. I hope it's improved by now though.
ConsciousDreamer
I have wondered about it being a gall stone, perhaps exacerbated by a suddenly high fat diet (although it wasn't THAT different before right? Chips?!) I still feel a dull discomfort in that area. Should I see a doctor? Should I discontinue the diet?
AmyS
There is nothing about Whole30 that brings on gallstone attacks or liver problems. Eating healthy whole foods is really a good thing.
angincanada
Upper right under your ribs actually sounds like your gallbladder. Liver is generally more central or left.
