snowflake67
So day 2! My friend Lisa is joining me, but not until Monday. She and my DD wanted me to wait, but my doctor has me on a cleanse in conjunction with the Whole30 so decided there was no time like the present! I'm starting out at 230 (my scale and that's what I weighed yesterday...doc's scale said 234 the day before; with all clothes on mind you). I have a desk job during the day; sitting all day long for long periods. Hence part of the reason I have foot pain I'm sure! Think I have planter fasciitis...I'll get back on that later. Looking to balance out my hormones, lose weight - -55 lbs, combat anxiety & stress; essentially be healthy! I'm a diet coke drinker and am on day two giving that up. I want it when I'm shopping. That usually happens on a Saturday - grocery day. So it was in the back of my mind. I noticed I didn't plan for lunch & didn't want to eat out, so dug into my new bag of apples & ate a few grape tomatos until I could have a meal. Note to self, plan lunch or bring snacks! My doctor prescribed 7000 steps a day till we get my foot figured out...much more achievable then my lofty 10,000. So makes me feel good when I hit it! Well, on with the day! Carolgirl
Great job! I love how you forged forward with starting when you did and wasn't delayed because of others. Good for you. Don't think twice about that diet coke. It is nothing but bad for you. You might as well have a measuring cup of granulated sugar and pour that down your throat. My husband has been off of it for 2 years now and drinks water instead. He misses it, craves it, but knows better than to start that nasty habit up again. Keep going. You are doing great. snowflake67
Day 3 down! When I got up this morning I felt sick. It took me 30 minutes to get on the tredmill for my 20 min start my metabolism walk! But...I did it & I got through the day. More energy toward evening. The cleanse I'm doing includes a shake mix stuff that my doctor is having me take...it fills in the nutrition gaps until I get balanced out with my food. I took it before I got on my tredmill for that last mike for the day. It helped! I think the whole30 & the cleanse are working really well together so far. Now it's bed time! I ready for it! snowflake67
Day 5 No diet coke! Progress! It's 9:30 PM and I still haven't had dinner yet. The shake (cleanse) my doctor prescribed I split into two; drink half a serving in the morning & the other half in the evening. It seems to be helping my energy & curbing my hunger. I did my work out - mostly to make sure I got my 7000 steps in...I ended out feeling so good I got up to 10,000! Yay me! I think I need to eat closer together - my main meals...and lunch needs to be larger, to sustain me till dinner. I still think I'm not eating enough food. I don't want to hold on to that extra weight just because I'm not eating enough! On to day 6!
jmcbn
Hi there - if you post a couple of days of food logs it may be easier for folk to help you tweak your intake so that you can get the 4-5 hrs between meals, and ensure you're getting adequate proteins, fats & veggies...Well done on staying away from the diet coke - that's a big step in the right direction...! After work I show houses, so did that, got home about 7 PM, did a couple of things around the house, changed, had my shake, treadmill for the additional steps missing to hit my target of 7000 for the day. Dinner will be after.... 8:30 PMish - Dinner: salad w/red cabbage, snap peas, grape tomatos, yellow pepper, and ground turkey (3 oz??) I think I am not eating enough protein (I track using fitness pal) and maybe too much natural sugar from fruits/veggies as well as fat. I have no clue. I'm still hungry, so eating a little more ground turkey. I think you're finding the need to snack because your meals aren't big enough - protein was probably fine at breakfast, but there are no veggies at all. 2-3 cups of veggies would have helped to keep you going until lunch. You could also mix up your proteins (meat, poultry or fish as well as eggs) to keep you feeling fuller for longer. The fat content looks fine to me. I wouldn't know how much 3oz chicken was if it hit me in the face - and you shouldn't either! How many thighs did you have? I'd probably go with 3-4... If you're having salad it needs to be HUGE - think how much it reduces when it wilts down - it's the same when it's chewed. Same applies to your meal three. I'd really discourage you from tracking foods on myfitnesspal - it only leads to weighing/measuring/tracking macros/calories (even if unintentionally) all of which are off limits on whole30. Keep a food log if if you want accountability. I know you've said the cleansing shakes were prescribed by the doctor, but do you mind me asking what's in them? And what they are supposed to do? You're calling it a cleanse (detox), yet saying it's providing you with nutrients until your food intake balances out, but you're taking it pre & post work out like a protein shake, so I'm a little confused. Also, technically shakes are off limits on whole30 as you should be able to get all the nutrients (including pre & post workout) you need from your food so I'm curious as to what benefit your doctor sees in them... Stick at it - every day is a step in the right direction!
snowflake67
Day 20!!!! I can't believe I've gotten this far! Sleep, better...no getting up several times a night! Still get major crashes in the afternoon where I feel like I must sleep. That is likely due to not eating enough through my work hours. I need to work on this; more food at lunch & consistent time frames. NO diet coke for 20 days!! Just wanted to do a quick check in...have steps to get in for the day! snowflake67
Day 24 I've been making my own salad dressings & mayo from the book "Whole30"! Foods are tasting so much better! I crave blueberries and brussel sprouts now, I feel good and satisfied. More energy, sleep is less and less restless. I tried on ALL my clothes today; even the ones I had stored for summer or "someday"...they are beginning to fit! Other clothes that I felt were to clingy are starting to fit better and other clothes are getting so baggy they are going to goodwill! I am excited and a little nervous about stepping on the scale. I've managed to keep it a surprise for day 30 Still NO diet coke...although as far as cravings go...that's what I crave...that an the occasional beer...which I don't normally drink! LOL! Over the holiday weekend I've slept at least 8-10 hours each night...makes a huge difference in my energy level. I will have to try to adjust during my work week; difficult because my daughter has actives that go till 9 at least three times a week. I'm getting my steps in. I might take a weekend off, but I'm committed to monday through friday! I'm very proud of myself! I am missing my husband more than I can say. This change helps keep me focused on being healthy, moving toward the goals I have for myself - weight loss, energy, endurance (hiking various long treks), and our goals as a couple....enjoying our life together. I want my husband to come back from deployment and see a new improved wife!
ncimi
Great to hear your progress, fellow May2nd-er! It's funny you mentioned craving beer sometimes because that's been happening to me and I am NOT a beer drinker hahaha!
snowflake67
Day 1 - 2nd Whole30 Tried to start yesterday...but went to dinner and to movie...and my BFF promptly reminded me that July has 31 days, so I could just start the following day! LOL! Darn you Best Friend! So, ended out eating tacos - one chicken & one steak. These aren't bad in themselves...corn tortillas dont bother me...but they came with cheese...I think I have a slight issue with cheese. Did NOT have a diet coke, so that I can be proud of! So this Whole 30 will not only eliminate dairy, grains, sugar, and alcohol...but also diet coke again! That's my monkey on my back...I give it an inch...it takes a lot to get off the vicious cycle! Had an anxiety attack in the movies and for quite a while afterwards. Took two tranquility supplements; which calms me, but still had to take 1/2 a Xanax to go to sleep. Worst night sleep ever! Eating right I think really effects us. I sleep better when I eat right and don't have anxiety attacks...motivation for sure! Still doing my 7000 steps a day! My first whole 30 I lost about 7 lbs and 6 inches...the last month (not doing a whole 30) lost another 1.5 inches off my hips alone! Lost an additional 3 lbs...but went up 2...so not sure if that's water weight or what. No scale now for the next 30! Ate so far: 2 eggs with a mix of peppers and onions Coffee w/coconut "cream" one pack nut mix (almonds, cashews, and macadamia) left over tuna w/home made mayo, grape tomato & avocado
