End of day 4

Recommended Posts

New guy here. First time using a forum of any kind so this is an experiment! I'd been eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's Pistaccio ice cream each and every night, right before bed, for YEARS! I'd be lying if I said I'm not missing it but I can't say I'd call it a "craving." I'm determined to stick with this and bring to fruition all the health benefits this lifestyle can bring!

Holy smokes, that's quite the amount of ice cream, just think how much money you're going to save!

Given that you are likely to have some fairly vicious sugar cravings (if you haven't started already), I recommend you make sure you are eating at least one serving of starchy veggies per day, probably more as your body works through withdrawal.

You can absolutely do this, Mark. You are stronger than Ben AND Jerry!!

Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate addict here

I too ate at least a pint every night. Thank God they pulled it off the shelves the week before I started

the Whole 30. If you stick with it you will be amazed at your results after just 1 week. I am on day 10.

I already dread the reintroduction phase so I think I will stay on the plan till I know I can control myself

with the sweets and chips.

Good luck !!

I'm an ENORMOUS ice cream addict... no.. I'm not enormous... I mean I have an ENORMOUS ice cream addiction... I've determined that it is not possible for me to have a healthy relationship with ice cream any more than it would be possible to have a healthy relationship with heroin... Whole30 is a safe harbour from that addiction... I don't have to make any choices about whether I'm going to give in to the addiction that day or not... I simply say 'I am Whole30' and move on...

I'd be interested to find out how your sleep is affected by not having that sugar dump right before bed every night... report back :)

Even if you are not exlperiencing cravings, you have established a habit and habits are hard to break.  Remember that new behaviors are developed by repetition and 30 days should get you out of that bad habit.

End of Day 9 and I'm grateful for a lot of things. Mostly though that even after decades of bombarding my system with sugar every night, so far I've had no problems. The evenings are the most difficult because that's when I would load up with crap! But I sure wouldn't say I feel anything like "cravings!" Woot-Woot!!

The Whole30 Timeline says that if you're going to quit the Whole30, it's usually around days 9 or 10. So far I remain happily and steadfastedly committed! No slips, no snacking just three portion controlled meals spaced about 3 - 4 hours apart.

Quick observation . . . I'm finding that certain foods are intensity flavorful to me. Like sweet potatoe, roasted cabbage and especially an orange. The later makes me feel like I'm cheating on the Whole30 because of the incredible sweetness! And I would never have guessed finding anything sweet about cabbage! Now, either it's all in my mind because I know I can't have sugar or it's something to be expected and others have experienced as well. But, after only 9 days?

A couple of questions . . . I read "It Starts With Food" and the Hartwig's newest books and, although most every kind of protein is mentioned I don't remember ever reading about a favorite around our house . . . Turkey! Maybe it's because it's assumed to be under the "poultry" heading? The same with fruit. I read about most fruits but no mention about a fave of mine, watermelon! And, I understand fruit juice is approved but don't know the amount.

I apologize if these have been answered previously. Still learning how to navigate through the forum!

Well done on making it thus far - especially with that ice cream habit you used to have! That was a WHOLE lotta ice cream!

Turkey would be classed as a protein, yes, and watermelon is a fruit - I guess they just couldn't list every option in the book? Fruit juice *is* approved, but NOT for drinking - more for adding to sauces or to use in cooking in general.

Sweet potato I've always found sweet, and I think that's why a lot of folks lean towards it at breakfast time. How are you cooking your cabbage? I find it sweet if it's sauteed in ghee.... same with sprouts. Oranges I haven't eaten in a very long time so couldn't comment, but I was at the gym yesterday and a woman beside me was chugging back what *must* have been orange juice (or a diluted fruit juice of some kind) from her water bottle and every time she popped the lid to drink it I got a whiff of this sweet syrupy sickening smell - so I guess, yes, once you remove the faux foods & refined sugars from your diet your taste buds adjust to find the naturally occuring sugars just as sweet - which is sweet  B)
