AuntJane
And I just want to cry. I have posted several times on this forum that I have two significant and mysterious medical concerns - a severe chemical and fragrance sensitivity and chronic swelling above the eyes and on the eyelids. I have a long list of (mainly processed) foods to avoid due to a balsam of peru allergy and benzoate sensitivity, so I honestly truly thought that if I completed a perfect Whole30, I would at least see some improvement in these two conditions. Instead, they have gotten worse over the past 30 days. I saw a functional medicine doctor last week who said, "It looks like food is not the cause of this." So I'm going to work with him to see what is. What's good about my Whole30? Well, this is my second and a half (I got to day 20 in March before getting upset over an allergic reaction to something and threw in the towel. Stupid...), and I did not maintain my good eating habits after the first Whole30. I let some emotional issues get the better of me and pretty much lived on cookies and ice cream for three months this past winter. I wish I was joking. I am not. So I had some serious work to do. Here are the positives: - I lost ten pounds. I can fit back into my clothes again! I am thrilled with this. - I lost 2" in my waist, 2" in my hips, 1" in my thighs - I am sleeping better and it's so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. Most mornings, I wake up before the alarm clock - The sugar dragon has been tamed! I have zero sugar cravings, and sweets have always been my downfall. In fact, this past weekend my niece had a softball tournament in the town where my favorite chocolate shop is located. I did stop and buy myself a box of chocolates before heading home on Saturday, and they are still sitting untouched on my kitchen counter. This is nothing short of a miracle for me. Seriously. I am not going to do the recommended reintro. Instead, I'm going to relax a little this weekend (I am not a mom, but my family does celebrate Mother's Day because my sister is a mom, and my mom died two years ago on Mother's Day). Then on Monday I'm going to start an AIP Whole30. I have not been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, but I have not been diagnosed with anything because I can't find a doctor who knows what's wrong with me (and clearly, something is wrong with me!). Based on my health history and current condition, I feel like this is the right way to go. I will miss cashews! They were my weekend treat! Oh well... Moderators LadyM Posted May 5, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 5, 2015 Congrats on completing another Whole 30 and all your great results. Best of luck with continuing your healing path. My functional medicine doctor has been nothing less than miraculous for me--I hope you get some good help and find relief. Be persistent and patient. It's been 2.5 years for me working with mine and we're still making progress.

Loulabelle
Congrats on finishing this time! I remember you posting around the time I started and had wondered recently about how you are doing. AIP is not so bad, I'm still pretty much following it.
AuntJane
Thanks for the encouragement, Loulabelle! I really don't think AIP will be much different from what I'm doing now, but I will miss eggs and cashews. And white potatoes.
tinman57
I read in the Whole30 book (I think) that some health conditions do take longer to heal. I wish you the best.
AuntJane
Thanks, tinman. You're right, that is in the book. I've been getting the daily emails, and it's in there too. I wasn't expecting my issues to be completely resolved in 30 days, but I was hoping they would improve somewhat. It's completely disheartening that they are still getting worse. I could whine about this all day! Instead, I think I will go shopping for some new clothes tonight. (okay, I'll probably whine too...)
mmf3759
I feel so happy that I finished my first Whole 30 and lost 15 pounds and think I have tamed the "sugar dragon"....I only really miss Red Wine and plan to have some this weekend.....that and some milk in my lattes and that is about it. I like eating this way and it has encouraged me to cook which I didn't like to do before! I a blessed to have no aches or pains or sleeping/skin/tiredness issues so I took the past 30 days to focus on learning to eat the "right" way again and shop without hitting the frozen pizza case! bmob
I really hope you can figure out what is going on with your chronic swelling and other medical conditions. I really hope that following the autoimmune is a breakthrough for you! Good Luck!
