burgersinmycakehole
My boyfriend and I are starting our Whole 30 Monday, the 11th. We figured we already completely overhauled our own dog's diet to ensure he is eating for health but we can't even do it ourselves? That's ridiculous. Especially considering my own medical issues, and how badly I need to do Whole 30. I ate a low carb/high veggie/high protein diet in high school and I remember that I found having meaty snacks often saved me. Such as pepperoni, or a hot dog without the bun, or some beef jerkey. I live in the midwest. We have Kroger, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Oh, and now a Lucky's Market. (And, of course, Target and Walmart, although please do not make me go to Walmart.) Does anyone know if I can find these things that would be compliant with my Whole 30? Am I going to have to do without? Thanks for your help in advance! Administrators ladyshanny Posted May 7, 2015 Administrators Share Posted May 7, 2015 You are going to have to read the packages of everything you think you might like to buy. Even if we recommend certain brands or lines, there's no guarantee that what is compliant in my area is the same in yours; manufacturers have different formulations for different areas. Consider that instead of thinking about what snacks you can buy, you should be directing your attention to how you can prepare and consume three full template meals every day. That's our ultimate recommendation; eat 3 times a day, no snacking. During the time it takes you to figure out and tweak how much food you need to eat at a meal to get you 4-5 hours, you may need something in between. The recommendation is a mini meal of protein and fat, ideally also veggies. A hard boiled egg or a couple meat balls or some compliant tinned fish would work perfectly! PS. This is also not a low carb diet. You are free to eat as many starchy veggies (and some fruits) as you like which could help in your ability to not need snacks. kirkor
Processed meat that's compliant can be tricky to find. Aidell's Chicken & Apple sausage is a decent one that can be found in a lot of mainstream stores (but, as always, double-check the label).
Munkers
It's really hard to find shelf-stable meat products. Whole Foods might carry Epic bars which is probably your best bet. The only compliant jerky brands I've found have been online.
Munkers
Oh! And Applegate Farms makes a compliant hot dog that's pretty darn good, but of course would require refrigeration.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted May 8, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 8, 2015 If all else fails, you can order stuff from EPIC bars, RXbars, Wild Zora, Primal Pacs ... all of these have approved Whole30-compliant products, but they may also have non-compliant products, so make sure you read the ingredients before ordering.
