dreezie78
What do yall think about jicama tortillas? Ingredients: jicama. I believe that it is just thinly sliced jicama.
Moderators LadyM Posted May 10, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 10, 2015 If you're just using thinly sliced jicama as a kind of wrap for your protein, I'd say that's akin to using romaine or boston lettuce for the same purpose, which is fine. Slices of baked sweet potato as a "bun" for your burger is OK, too, and in the same vein. However, it's best to move away from over relying on any foods that look like your old favorite SAD meals, namely sandwiches. It's a fine line to walk, but so much of revolutionizing your diet is changing how you eat as well as what you eat. So, changing that for 30 days is worthwhile. dreezie78
Thank you Lady M! This is something I saw people talking about on a "paleo" facebook group and I was curious if it would be whole30 approved also...that solves that! I have never seen any in person, so its doubtful that I will get to try one but it sounds like it might be a good alternative to a lettuce wrap on occasion. Thanks again! simmie
This question is referring to commercially produced wraps, not really homemade. How are these any different from the Pure Wraps (coconut) which are not allowed? They're basically the same thing, plus these have a very tortilla-y texture and feel to them. Or similar to plantain tortillas, which are also not allowed.....
dreezie78
Noooo these are not commercially produced wraps...they are thinly sliced jicama "sheets" that are put out in the produce department of a grocery store...sliced BY the grocery store. Munkers
If you have a mandolin, you can make your own jicama "wraps" at home. I've seen the idea on a few blogs, but haven't tried it yet, myself. Seems like a nice summer dish and an interesting riff on lettuce wraps.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted May 11, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 11, 2015 Basically, if you are just replacing something with JUST a vegetable, it's fine. You get into SWPYO territory when you have to incorporate some kind of flour to make it work.
Bluetrav
I got some jicama tortillas at my store. They're just thinly sliced jicama slices. They don't taste like tortillas, look, feel, or act like them. As mentioned above, it's more like using a lettuce wrap. Honestly I had a couple and decided I didn't really like them.
