Completed day 1!

Breakfast was 3 poached eggs on a bed of spinach with a slice tomato.

Lunch was chicken with spanish sauce (2 slices bacon, 8 olives, 1/4 of a pepper and a tomato cooked down) along with sauteed peppers.

Dinner was rib steak, yellow beans and roasted potatoes.  Steak was so good, and I made enough for brekkie tomorrow!

Had a cup of tea in the evening, and 12 glasses of water in total.

Rise and Shine!

Breakfast:  Steak, yellow beans and a few baby potatoes.  Wasn't hungry when I put it in the microwave, I'm never hungry in the morning, but as soon as I got a whiff of the steak....tummy rumbled!

Lunch TBA.  Not sure what is available at work today.  Dinner is spaghetti bolognese - zoodles for me!  The sauce is the crockpot already.

Day 2 done!

Had roast turkey for lunch along with a bunch of olives, cukes, tomato slices and some carrots.  Oh and a pear.

Dinner was great, sauce all nice and ready when I got home.  I should have made 2 zuchinni though because it shrunk down quite a bit.  Had an apple right after because I still felt hungry and didn't have anything else.

My feet are so swollen tonight!  I was on my feet all day long, from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm.  My gosh they ache.  I have had issues with swollen feet for about a year now, no known cause, but I'm hoping I see an improvement.

Day 3

I knew I didn't have enough to eat at dinner last night.  Ended up having a mini meal around 8:30 of the last of my rib steak, 3 baby potatoes and some olives.  Felt so much better after that!  Still had a craving for sweet in the evening but the salty fattiness of the steak killed it.  For last night, anyway.

Feet are super swollen and achey, soaking them as we speak.

Breakfast:  Sauteed eggplant with bolognese sauce.

Lunch - nothing but coffee :/  Wasn't hungry, and didn't have the time.

Dinner - butter chicken!  Hope its good.  Served with cauliflower rice, and cauliflower.  I forgot I was doing an eggplant dish for dinner and ate my eggplant for breakfast.

SO - Its day 3 and I'm doing okay.  Not starving, not needing a snack (and I am a huge snacker).    The last attempt I was starting to get a little wrangy by now.

Day 4.

Butter chicken last night was pretty good!  I forgot to add the lime juice and cilantro at the end but whatever.  I really wanted a snack last night - something sweet - but just drank my water.  Made it thru the evening!

Breakfast - zucchini and yellow pepper sauteed in olive oil with bolognese sauce.  Might try a bulletproof coffee this morning with coconut milk, coconut oil and ghee.  Trying to break my "need coffee in the morning" habit and just been having it at work this week but I think I need more fat.

NSV?  I walked down the stairs this morning and it was not as painful as it usually is.  Plantar fasciitis in both feet - improvement already?   BUT - both hands swollen and red when I woke up.  Looking forward to the day when neither of those are a problem!

Lunch - not enough fat!  I just ate from the salad bar, plus some roast turkey, and very sad there were no olives today.  By 2:00 I was really hungry, but I don't want to eat until dinner (its 4:30 now and just got home).  I wish I could have had some nuts or something but I work in a school and nuts are not allowed.   Its true....you need fat to keep you satisfied!

Consider getting a couple of hard boiled eggs into your fridge for just this sort of situation.  If you were hungry by 2 and it's 430 now and it's still not dinner time, eat something!  A bit of chicken or a microwave a scrambled egg or eat some olives from the jar in the fridge.  Don't torture yourself!

I didn't get home till 4:30 and I had to run out again right away to get my son from school.   I don't have a fridge at work so hard to keep something like eggs around for emergencies.

I'm actually STILL feeling hungry.  I think its just one of those days.  I had lots of roast beef at dinner, plus macadamia nuts, carrots, a few chunks of potatoes.  I hate to snack (its a habit I'm trying to break) but I still feel like I didn't have enough fat!  I have some olives here at home that are calling my name.

Day 5!  I think I actually had a good nights sleep, I woke up feeling rested.

Breakfast - butter chicken and cauli rice.  So delish.

My oldest son is having his wisdom teeth out today, taking him in this morning.  I bought him ice cream and puddings and soups to eat.  He's not a soup eater but I found some good recipes that are whole 30 compliant so making some soup this afternoon.

I feel so much less bloated today...I feel skinny.  Need to lose about 50 pounds, but today, I feel skinny.  My skin doesn't feel all stretched out and tight and itchy.  Amazing.

Day 6....terrible day.  My dog has pancreatitis and its not getting better.  She is now on a fast for 24 hours and after that, no more treats, just the low fat food we had to switch her too.  I completely lost my appetite after talking with the vet this morning, and didn't eat until about 1:30.  Stayed compliant but haven't eaten much.

Day 7

No appetite in the morning.  Not hungry at all, and I couldn't even swallow the eggs I made.  I think I'm getting sick.

Lunch was easier -  8 olives, chicken, broccoli.  I didn't eat much, but at least I ate.

Cold and rainy outside, very blah day.  Oh had 2 cups of coffee with coconut milk.  I don't need to go back to cream in my coffee, I am super happy with this.

Day 8!

Hard to believe its day 8.  Its a Monday, its a holiday and there is snow on the ground.  It's all very confusing.

So eggs, onion, mushroom, spinach, tomatoes and green onion cooked in ghee taste pretty amazing.  Wow.  And so does the pork sausage I made last weekend.  I made 2 pounds worth, rolled it out, cut in rounds and froze it, so its like sausage patties.  Super tasty.

Definitely need to grocery shop today!  The weather yesterday was too awful.  90km winds all day with rain.  I did not leave the house.

I'm feeling pretty good!  My feet feel great.  Not pain-free, but getting there.  Elbows and hands are still achey.  I slept GREAT.  I think I was out like a light within minutes.  That NEVER happens to me. Except it did the night before....apparently my son came in to cuddle the dogs and I was passed right out, just minutes after getting into bed.  THe good sleep alone is worth doing the whole30!

Made a chicken, green pepper and pineapple stir fry dinner.  It was okay, needed more seasoning for sure, but I have for breakfast tomorrow, so that's awesome.

I fit into pants that haven't fit in more than a year.  All that peeing has paid off....I don't look nearly as puffy as I have since last February.

All in all a good day.

Long day at work yesterday.  Had a big fat juicy burger topped with guac and lots of broccoli on the side, followed by a banana.

Had a terrible sleep last night, I was "busy" in every single dream I had.  Not restful at all.

Breakfast - chicken pineapple and green pepper stirfry.  I feel like having coffee right now, so tired.  I was getting used to waking up feeling rested too!

You could be right.  I did have my banana with my meal...I usually have fruit (one a day) earlier in the day, but it was a crazy day.  I'll have my fruit with lunch today.  I do think part of the reason for my bad sleep was the busy day at work, all my dreams were work related!  Its a short work day today - only 5 hours, yay!

Day 12

Brunch - vegetarian omelet without cheese, 2 cups of coffee

Dinner - salmon, mayo, celery, onion...english cucumber

Weird day.  Not really hungry but kept thinking about ice cream.  Didn't want ice cream, but it was on my mind.

Day 13.....nearing the middle of my journey!

I feel like days 12 and 13 are my hardest days.  I hurt my back on Tuesday (I think I just sat too much) and its not getting any better and I want comfort food.  Instead, I'm doing yoga and drinking rooibos tea.  It takes such effort to change your relationship with food.  I'm already thinking about re-introduction and how carefully I need to tread.

I have to say, I do feel really good being off dairy.  I swear I can feel that there is so much less inflammation in my body.  The pain in my feet is nearly gone; pain in my ankles IS gone, left elbow is pain-free, still have pain in the right elbow, and my hands are no long stiff and red and swollen :)  Can I stay dairy-free for the rest of my life?  I'm not sure.  But I really want to minimize the amount I eat.  I don't need cream in my coffee, so its just the cheese, the butter?, and the ice cream.  Butter will be the real test.  I do think I prefer it to ghee.

Funny thing is....I am lactose intolerant, have been for at least 25 years, but have never been able to give it up.  I have those lactaid pills or whatever, but always forget to take them before eating.  I've caused myself A LOT of discomfort and pain over the years by consuming dairy.

Grains....I couldn't care less about bread and pasta.  There are alternatives that I am happy with.  But I hope that rice isn't one of those things that affects be badly.  I don't need to eat it everyday, but I would like to have sushi once a month.

The back pain has me obsessed with food today.  I would normally have a bowl (or 3) of ice cream to lift my spirits.  And then spend a few hours in the bathroom :/  Ugly cycle.

Food today

Brekkie - 2 eggs, green beans, hollandaise sauce (which separated, btw)

Lunch - burger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions - at fatburger

Dinner - probably burger again, at home.  That's what was requested by the husband and child.  I'll make guacamole again, and smother it, that was amazing last time.

2 cups of coffee today, first one with coconut milk, second one black.

Made lara bars this afternoon.  Should have soaked the nuts because my tiny food processor wasn't able to chop it up fine, ended up putting it in my vitamix, which was difficult to get out.  Had a little taste....too damn good!  My kids love them.

Sunday - Day 14

Pain in my right elbow has gone from a 7 to a 4.  I am struggling to believe how food can affect pain in your body...but the proof is here, isn't it?  Nothing else has changed, just my diet.  I know we are not supposed to measure during the whole30 but I don't think my elbow counts....it is down 1.8 cm.  That's amazing, that's so much fluid GONE from my elbow.

Food today so far:

Salmon with mayo, celery, onion, 2 cups black coffee

Oh my goodness, May 26, Day 16, can't believe I missed logging.

Had a very hungry day yesterday, same thing with Sunday night.  Feel like I might be pms'ing but not sure since I am so irregular now that I've hit perimenopause.  Sunday I had way too much fruit, I was busy, and it made me want more sweet stuff.  Should have had protein and fat and veg as a small meal but we were trying to get stuff done outside.

Yesterday I was on the run all day.  Daisy had her ultrasound and it was good - no tumors visible.  Best news.

Today - worked all day.  Sick of eggs for breakfast!  Had sausage and peppers for breakfast, veal mushrooms and onions and olives for lunch, and spaghetti squash with bolognese sauce for dinner.  2 cups of coffee during the day.
