rubarb
Today is Day #2 for me and it wasn't an accident that I found this site just a few days before the start of September. I'd been looking into paleo for a few weeks and tried some recipes. Then, somehow, I arrived here. Love the simplicity of the meal planning and days 1 & 2 have been great. The mind-blowing thing to me is how satisfied I am after I eat. Man, I was a carb-aholic for sure. It feels so strange to have fat in my meals, but I can't argue with how much it helps me. The best way for me to describe what happens is that it feels like my body is at peace or humming. Take this morning for instance. I made a smoothie of coconut milk, spinach, strawberries, 2 egg yolks, chia... That was at 9am. I wasn't hungry until about 2:30! What in the world???!!! That's never happened before. Lunch was ground chicken with a homemade, sugar-free tomato sauce and some sauteed veggies. Oh my. So good. Cooked with butter and a little olive oil. Again, with the being satisfied. Dinner at 6:30 was a sliced yellow tomato (fresh from yesterday's farmer's market), a few strips of bacon and pancakes made of banana, and egg and a little almond flour (Were those pancakes compiant?) Now I sit not wanting a dessert. Crazy. In just a couple days, I have noticed that I am used to eating often out of habit. Normally, I would get so super hungry and then angry that I was hungry and then desperate and so ate whatever. Now I understand that I need to have a breakfast with a fat that will satisfy me. Who knew? I used to have smoothies with no fat at all but lots of greens and fruit. The greens were good, but the fruit/sugar and not fat left me searching for something to eat and feeling irritable about an hour or two later. I ordered It Starts with Food and am looking forward to reading it to learn more. This whole adventure is a major paradigm shift for me. I have been pursuing a vegetarian-to-raw food lifestyle for several years. I had fish occassionaly and chicken on a blue moon (the recent blue moon may explain this change in me). Now I'm eating chicken just about every day (been at this for over a week now, but officially started the W30 challenge yesterday). It will be exciting to see what other changes this month brings. If anyone is looking for a buddy for accountability and/or encouragement, give me a shout. We can do this!!!

It is recommended that we NOT paleo-ize food - so, even a Paleo version of pancakes is not recommended during the Whole30.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted September 3, 2012 I love your start! And I love that you are experiencing the value of fat and protein so profoundly. Chia seeds are not nearly as good a choice as they are promoted to be. See page 176 of It Starts With Food when your copy arrives.

Thanks Debbie, good to know. I'll stay away from those for the rest of my challenge.

rubarb
Hi newbie! I loved reading that post only because I feel I completely relate to you. I'm starting today and would love to have a buddy! Are we in this for the long haul or what?! Sounds good to me! I'm totally in it for the long haul. It's the first time I've implemented an eating change and felt like I could see myself continuing for an indefinite period of time. Have you gotten the book? Written out your goals? I'm excited about us helping each other!
eeemg7
Hi Newbie, Yes well day #2 and I feel great - yesterday I ate well and feel great about this challenge. Although it's not meant to be about weight I feel that this ideally will help me obtain my goal result of -5kg for month. I want to look at food differently, I want to stop binging for good, I don't want to reward myself with food instead look forward and enjoy it on rare occassions. I want to feel good and look healthy and vibrant. I guess overall I just want to complete a challenge and do it right, 100%. I have the book - it's great, I seem to refer it a lot and read it here and there. Let's continue to do this!
