Coloradolime
It seems like all I can find are pre-seasoned skillets. But...they are pre-seasoned with vegetable oil. Everyone seems to be using them. Compliant or am I over thinking this?
Administrators ladyshanny Posted May 15, 2015 Administrators Share Posted May 15, 2015 I'll go out on a limb here and say that this should be fine. Cooking with vegetable oil is much, much different than going through the seasoning process with it. You could always re-season it if you wanted: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-season-a-cast-iron-skillet-cleaning-lessons-from-the-kitchn-107614
Munkers
When a cast iron skillet is heated, the oil used to season it actually polymerizes/fuses with the skillet to form the coating. Assuming that it's properly seasoned and that you're not abusing the skillet, whatever oil was used shouldn't actually be getting into your food and certainly not in any kind of measurable quantity. I'd recommend wiping it down with coconut oil going forward, but I wouldn't worry about a new pan ruining your compliance.
