Day 29--Fruit and Nut concerns

Recommended Posts

Okay, so here's the deal.

I felt like I was killing it from day 15-25ish. Completely compliant, three meals with proteins, fats and carbs, the occasional snack, no cravings, amazing energy, happiness, the whole "tiger blood" deal that we hear so much about.

Then, around day 25ish, I began to notice the want for fruit, and nuts. More than a hunger, it felt more like a craving. Three nights straight, I have awoken to have a piece of fruit and a spoonful of almond butter. And all day I have been thinking about getting my hands on fruit.

Needless to say, I'm concerned.

I feel like my metabolism is humming along, and I still feel happy, but I did this to not be ruled by food. I am considering extending my whole30 to a whole45, and ditching the nuts and fruit for the latter portion.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience, or suggestions, I am really in the dark about where this came from.

I surmise that your body was doing one of two things.  Extinction burst near the end and trying to get you to go back to your "old ways".  Or it was the week of or before your period (assuming you are female) and your body naturally needs higher carbs and more food in general.

Did I see right that you woke up to eat fruit and nut butter? Like...out of a night's sleep?  Or just that your cravings were awoken?

Dried fruit, fruit & nut butters are the closest thing to candy on a whole30. If you've been fighting a sugar dragon & feeding it with those things then you've not really been fighting the dragon at all, but rather fuelling it.

Ditch the fruit & nuts, and if a craving strikes opt for fat to slay it.

Can you list what you've been eating?  Waking from a deep sleep to eat sugars/carbs isn't necessarily common.  I wonder if you are eating enough overall and enough starchy veggies in particular.  Give us a few days of typical consumption including portion sizes, meal timing, fluids, exercise, sleep times, stress etc and we can take a look and see if anything pops out.

There was an article on Mark's Daily Apple awhile ago from someone who wakes in the middle of the night to eat junk food.  Mark had some decent tips that you might get some help out of.
