AlexisG2003
I'm on my 11th day of the program (Woohoo!) and I've been keeping a food log just to be able to see if some of my health issues are triggered by food. I have noticed after I eat sweet potatoes (only eaten them for dinner so far) I get a terrible headache and typically wake up feeling foggy-headed and tired. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm curious if this could be a sign of Carb Intolerance?
GFChris
Rather than carb intolerance, I wonder if you might have a sensitivity to nightshades?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted May 26, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 26, 2015 Carb intolerance usually involves anything but vegetables, even the starchy ones, but you might have a problem with sweet potatoes. Try substituting white potatoes, rutabagas, parsnips, or carrots, etc and see if your symptoms improve.
AlexisG2003
Thanks! I just looked up the nightshade foids, and the only thing from the list I eat are bell peppers. I haven't experienced problems with those, but I'll watch more closely. I'll substitute white potatoes and see what happens. I appreciate the advice! missmary
sweet potatoes are not a nightshade (they are part of the morning glory family), but some people who are sensitive to nightshades are sensitive to them also. I might try subbing something starchy that is NOT a nightshade instead just to be sure. White potatoes are nightshades. Maybe butternut squash or pumpkin would be a more neutral test? Whoops, I stand corrected - thanks missmary!
Dutchie
Does fruit give you similar symptoms or other peculiar symptoms? bc it can also be bc sweet potatos contain quite some fructose(&sucrose),regular potatos are mostly starch/glucose and virtually devoid of sucrose&fructose. So,it necessarily doesn't have to be nigthshades especially if bell peppers don't give you problems.
