sushifan
Hey guys. I'm super nervous but am starting my W30 tomorrow. I'm not that far off my goal weight - maybe five pounds - but I'm even more concerned about changing my relationship with food. I struggle with disordered eating, attention issues and fatigue, all of which get worse with stress...and I'm under a LOT of stress. I recently found out that my baby has a medical problem that is going to require many years of expensive treatment, and the news sent me down the rabbit hole food-wise. I am getting outside emotional support, which helps, but I really feel like I need a kick in the rear to take better care of myself so that I can care for my daughter. I also work full time and need energy to tackle that part of my life. I could really use some support and advice as I start this process. So, whether you've already succeeded at your 30 or you're working through it now, I'd love to hear from you. First day is tomorrow! sushi (minus the rice:)
jhmomi
Good luck on your Whole30! You can do this one day at a time. I can relate to stress regarding medical issues with kids. My son had open heart surgery at 4 months to repair a heart defect. He's a healthy 3rd grader now! We have had other issues with our kids and one we are currently trying to diagnose. Hang in there and do the best you can. No one expects any more from you! Please send me a PM if there is anything I can do to support you. It can be tough. Especially when those around you think an ear infection is a crisis. I am still good friends with another Mom whose son shared the same Pod in the NICU with my son almost 9 years ago because we bonded and understood each other better than our family members ever could. TripleM
I am only on Day 3 so I don't really have any advice, but just wanted to send some support your way! I can't imagine finding out that news, and think I would turn to food as well. But you can do this!!! You already have the right attitude and mindset, you just have to tackle it one meal at a time! I hope everything is ok with your baby, and would be happy to be a support to you throughout this process! Good luck, keep your head up and think positive!! sushifan
It can be tough. Especially when those around you think an ear infection is a crisis. Laughed out loud at this. One of my friends (whose heart truly is in the right place) told me she could relate because her son wasn't sleeping well. I laugh at it now, but in the moment I felt like I was living on my own planet. TripleM, thanks so much. I'd love to have your support, and yes, one thing at a time is a great way to tackle both the W30 and any other of life's challenges!

sushifan
Thanks! Going ok so far. Meal one: two hard boiled eggs and a plum Meal two: two hard boiled eggs and cut up bell pepper Meal three: roast beef, lettuce and tomato Now I need to figure out the rest of the day! I'm out of my snacks, so I need to try and find a W30 compliant dinner choice, since I'll be getting home late. Hope everyone is having a good day! sushifan
Ended up having grilled chicken on a salad with roasted peppers, green olives, tomatoes, cukes and apples. Then roasted veggies and roast beef later at night. Anyone else struggle with eating late at night when you're tired? I swear, I need to make a rule that I can't eat after 8pm and need to go to bed! TripleM
Yes! I do. I've been having a glass of water or hot tea and getting ready for bed early. For me I think it's a combination of habit and boredom. And avoiding the million things I need to do around the house after baby goes to bed:). I started getting a magazine on my phone so I get in bed and read that or read a book. Helps divert my attention!! Good luck!
Jenny Robinson
Go to bed and sleep. That's my suggestion for late evening cravings. Your body is trying to repair itself, and sleep helps with the process. So proud of your Day 1. Hope your Day 2 was better than mine. I will never forget the little demon behind my eyes who decided sledgehammer'ing my skull was the most awesome idea ever. Keeping you and your kiddo in my prayers. djoyce
Hey and good luck with your challenge and best wishes for your daughter. I have been so very lucky with our two kids. Always remember that we need to be strong (healthy, well nourished) for ourselves, and for our kids! I used to be fantastic during the daylight hours and then bomb during the nigh-time to undo all the clean eating and exercise I had achieved. I am happy to report that when I eat restricted carbs and eat W30 compliant, I have no late night cravngs... when I deviate, I end up elbow deep in a bag of cookies. I am happy report that I have had no cravings or desire for late night binging since I started my own W30. Eating this way (getting past the first few day fog) has really helped me set aside any desire or need to munch myself to bed. I know you have read before but planning (especially in the early days) is so critical for success. I suggest that you may face extra challenges if you leave "what shall we have for dinner?" as a decision you make at 6:30 PM that day. It becomes much less stressful if you plan it out on the weekend or the night before. This is especially critical as the day 2-5 fog can impair judgment - resulting in poor choices or non-compliant meals. Take it one day at a time but plan in chunks that make sense to you. I do some weekend planning for my lunches and breakfasts for the week on Sunday. I make planning options and decisions for dinners the night before (what are we having and what do I need to take out of the freezer?). This seems to work best for me and my family. BTW, I am the only W30 eater in my house but my wife and kids are supportive. Keep up the good work and know that these daily successes will help you achieve better health!
