Questions...... Gas and having to start over!

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Day 10 for me today.

1>The last 2 days I have suffered with MAJOR gas pains. I have stuck to the program with no slips. Normal?

2> Yesterday I snacked a lot. All Complaint food but I really snacked up a storm. Do I have to start over? I did have to taste the gravy I was making for the family a little flour added in to thicken. Does this mean I have to start over as well??

Thanks for the help!

Snacking is not a cause for restart but it will not give you optimal results on your Whole30.  The "magic" happens when you follow the Meal Template (linked below).

The gravy with flour in it though is another story.  We don't tell you if you have to restart or not, we let you decide for yourself. Read the "Do I Have To Start Over" article linked below and decide.  But do know that wheat is probably the worst offender for gut disruption and breaking your reset.  If it were me I would start over....and next time I would probably taste the liquid for flavour before adding the flour to thicken it. ;)

thanks for the input. I really haven't eaten anything new.

Saturday

Sweet potatoe hash, 3 eggs, coffee with coconut cream and cinnamon

Steak, peppers & Mushrooms, salad balsamicdressing.

Basa fish, Grilled Veggies, Cherries & pistachios

Sunday

Sweet potatoe hash, 3 eggs, coffee with coconut cream and cinnamon

Lara Bar, Turkey, Celery & Carrots (rushed)

Roast beef, Potatoes, Broc, Cauliflower- small gravy taste

HEAVY SNACK- 2 more Lara Bars, Cherries & Pistachio's.

I haven't been snacking a lot, I was very tired yesterday and OLD habit was to eat to get through.....acknowleged and willing to change. Eye opening!

First off, I suggest dropping  the Lara Bars. Those are emergency food only on a Whole30, plus the nuts in them can cause gas/digestive distress for some.

Are you drinking enough water? Aim for 1/2 an ounce of water per pound of body weight, daily.

Broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms can cause gassiness for some.  That might be something to experiment with as well.

Gas is not a normal symptom of the conversion from sugar burner to fat adapted.

Just out of interest I have bolded the items you've eaten in the last two days that have been known to be problematic for other folks. It is probably worth it for you to cast your mind back to the other days you've had gas and see if there is any common denominator.

Lara bars are a suboptimal choice in all cases except an absolute emergency where you will be stuck for hours without food.  Nuts are known to be gut disruptive so you might consider letting the pistachios go.
