Hi, I'm new and haven't posted before, so hello  :)   As my title says, I have actually been doing Whole30 for more than two weeks, but yesterday I realized my almond milk was not compliant.  I swear I checked and double checked, but there it was.  Carrageenan.  Ugh.  I only drank it twice sometime last week, because I didn't really like it, but I can't remember what day.  Then, I added too much cayenne pepper to dinner last night and ended up with really stubborn heartburn that wouldn't go away despite several bottles of ACV laced water so I had to take Papaya Enzyme tablets to get rid of it in order to sleep.  So, today is day one again.

I was finally into the groove with everything and sugar cravings were pretty much nil, so starting over is not really a big deal.  I was planning on a whole60 anyway, so now it will be a whole45 plus 10 days for limited reintroduction to prepare for our camping vacation.  Not really a big deal practically speaking, but mentally it's pretty tough.  Getting past 15 (not actually, but seemingly) wasted days is very difficult.  I didn't slip, I just mixed up my allowed additives with disallowed ones.  Then I chose to take the papaya to control serious heartburn that I couldn't shake.  I take complete responsibility but I wanted to vent a bit.

So, that's my story.  How's everyone else doing?

Oh how frustrating!!!! I have been so super diligent (paranoid?!) about making sure there is nothing that slips by me (I started on May 18th). If there was anything in question along the way so far I just put it aside and decide it's not worth the stress LOL. I am sticking to as many items that have zero ingredients (because they are whole foods) as possible! My one exception is my bolthouse farms balsamic which is compliant but still makes me nervous haha.

I think anyone's best bet is to stick to foods with no ingredient list whatsoever when possible! good luck!

I agree edgymama.  Then there's no chance for confusion.  I have come to really like making my own things too so that I can be certain they're compliant.  My absolute favorite is homemade mayo.  Stupid easy and so delicious!  I have made slaw dressing/veg dip/salad dressing using just mayo and balsamic vinegar.  So versatile and tasty.  I also made mashed potatoes with the mayo and that worked out great too...and I have been known to throw a couple of teaspoons on my veggies  :P   I used to be a die hard fan of miracle whip, but I am definitely a mayo convert!

Best of luck to you too and thanks for the reply.

Hi vnewtnew,

I tripped up on the exact same thing... almond milk with carrageenan in it! I was only on day 2 when I found it, luckily, but after all the work it took to go shopping and figure out what I can eat, it was a let down. I admire you for starting over.I'm with you about the mayo. I'm really enjoying the food, but need to get into the habit of all the cooking!

Hi rachelstrong,

Nice to meet you!  I know what you mean about all the prep time...I prepared for a month, reading everything, giving up my diet soda, eating about 85% compliant.  I felt with the food that it would be more prudent to ease myself into it.  The soda I needed to do first and all at once.  I'm really glad I did, because that withdrawal was nightmarish.  Are you currently doing a whole30 or are you finished?

I am currently doing whole 20. Technically I am on day 2 because of that coconut (not almond) milk episode on my previous day 2. I am sort of thinking though like I am on day 4 of 32 days. Well done with the soda. I did not think I had much soda or coffee, but I think I was having more than I realized.

How frustrating! But congratulations on making the decision to hit the restart! That takes a lot of self commitment. I did the same thing with my vitamins not realizing they had soy in them until a week in. Who knew?!? That night I decided to hit the reset was really, really hard mentally since I knew I'd been working so hard and it was an accident. Once I got through the next 48 hrs I felt better and was proud I made that decision, but it was very disheartening at first. So congratulations on doing that for yourself and I hope you are feeling better today!

I was W30 Day 26 when I stopped short!

So I'm finding this okay

I still prep and keep whole as much as I can

I love my mayo too

You didn't waste 15 days it was a learning experience if you look at the big picture

Thank you Brandib & MeGA"gardener" for the kind replies.  It's helpful to know I'm not alone :)  I had a tough day on Sunday but it's fine now.  I keep telling myself that it's just a number like on the scale.  It's not really about how many days, it's about what I learn (and unlearn!) that counts.  I feel really good, my skin looks and feels amazing and I'm breaking bad old habits and learning good new ones.  I intend to eat healthier and smarter for the rest of my life so this adjustment and learning period is just the beginning.

Best of luck to you and every one of us taking this journey to better health- in body, mind and spirit!

Good for you!

Please refrain from the scale

It's only 30 days

You'll be pleasantly surprised

I am avoiding it like the plague.  Same thing I've done for years, lol!!  That part is a breeze  :P
