scottd000
So the reason I started this program was because I am having pain on my right side that's been off and on, mostly on for the past 3 years. Mostly in the area of the gallbladder but it does move around a bit. I've been to 3 doctors who can't really find anything wrong. Before I threw down about $300 to see a naturopath my wife told me that they would ask me to cut out dairy, gluten, and sugar - when I googled this I found the Whole 30. I figured I'd give this a go. So as far as eating and withdrawals things couldn't be going better, the food I like and no withdrawal symptoms. I've definitely have lost some weight, skin is better, sleep is good and for the for the first 15 days, I'm on Day 23 now, my stomach symptoms were much less severe and less frequent. Since Day 16, the pain seems to be back to its old self, nearly constant. The thing that has me very concerned is that my BM's have been loose and not as much volume as they should be (sorry for being gross) - this is not something that used to happen before this diet. I know gallbladder issues they tell you to keep away from animal fat and now I cook everything in duck or chicken fat as opposed to vegetable oil. Does anyone have some insight that could be helpful? I'm afraid maybe I'm consuming to much animal fat and am hurting my gallbladder, even though doctors tell me it's not that. FYI - all my meat is grass fed, my chickens and ducks are pastured, all of it comes from US wellness meats (shopped there before this) my fish is all wild and my vegetables are organic (was before this diet.) Thanks!
Guest Andria
Digestive issues are not uncommon for people starting their Whole30. How much of a departure is the Whole30 from your previous diet? To be able to give you some input, we would need you to post 2-3 days worth of meal/beverage intake.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted June 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2015 Sounds like you are eating well, but please do post a few meals from your past few days so we can take a look to see if there are any obvious culprits. Some folks are sensitive to nuts, fruits, eggs, coconut ... My advice would be to try a few tweaks. For example, if you change the type of fat you're eating (maybe more avocado, olives and less cooking fat?) will that change how you are feeling? Give it a try. scottd000
Not too much from a departure. I did drink a fair amount of beer on the weekend and for lunch I would usually have some form of grain or gluten (rice, pasta, etc) But for breakfast and dinner pretty close to the same. For my diet this has been typical Breakfast (7am): 3 Eggs, half a japanase yam, 2 cups veg (zucchini, tomato, onion, scallion, jalapeno, spinach or kale) - on the weekends I may have half an avocado or compliant sausage Lunch(noon): Chicken curry, potatoes, carrots, kale or taco style ground beef with homemade salsa (2 palms protein, 2 cups veg)- a banana or handful of nuts - Snack (5:30pm when I get home from work) - carrot and handful of nuts Dinner(7:30pm): Steak, Chicken or fish always at least 2 palms, huge salad or broccoli or grilled veg (at least 2 to 3 cups), usually a small potato, and some berries. thanks again for any input
Guest Andria
Your meals do look good, except that your M1 is very small. I am a petite female and that is what I eat for my M1. If eggs are your sole protein, you should consume the number you can hold in your hand. Alternatively, you could stick with the 3 eggs, but add in a palm size of protein. I see, though, that nuts show up a couple times. They could be the culprit as they can cause a variety of digestive issues for people. I would suggest cutting them out for the remainder of your Whole30. Also, limit your intake of raw veggies if you are eating them frequently, they can be difficult to digest, as well. As a side note, you want to steer clear of snacks like you had at 5:30. If you are hungry, try having a mini meal of protein, fat and veg. The general recommendation would be to make your earlier meal, lunch, bigger to avoid the need to snack. I see, though, that your dinner is quite late (7 1/2 hours after lunch), so you would likely need that mini meal if you can't bring up dinner earlier. Since you said your previous diet was not that different from Whole30, except for beer and some grain consumption, your body may need to adjust to the lack of extra fiber you would be getting from the grains. Eating Whole30 is definitely not fiber deficient, but you could sub more sweet potato, say, in place of the white potatoes.
