Peachyasapear
Hello All! I am on Day 2 of my Whole30, our whole family is doing this. Hubby and kids 2 and 5 yo. My biggest challenge is that I run a day home and have 'rules' that I am supposed to follow. Firstly I'm required to follow and Canada Food Guide in terms of meals and have to provide 2 food groups for snacks and 3 food groups for meals. Second, our day must include breakfast, AM snack, Lunch and PM snack. Now for kids I understand that this is ok and I'm still breastfeeding my 2yo once at bedtime, so my needs are a bit higher too. But how do I overcome the snacky, sugar dragon when working in this situation?!? I also find that while my own kids are sort of used to a restrictive diet (We've done GAPS as a family too), the day home kids are having a hard time and the whining, complaining and faces I get over the food is so stressful. And I'm a stress eater to begin with! Any insight is welcome.
AmyS
I would not make your little ones stick to three meals with no snacks. They really need to eat often. The three meals a day thing is for adults on Whole30, not for toddlers/preschoolers. You too, might need four full meals per day since you're nursing. If you are able to serve foods according to Whole30 guidelines to the little ones in your care, that's fine, but just make sure they have many opportunities to eat throughout the day. As you know, a kid might eat nothing but avocados for a week and then suddenly hate them and eat only chicken the next week and then live on ketchup the week after. That's fine. Feed the littles often, and feed yourself lots. Really.
