Hey I'm Jen and I'm starting Whole30 tomorrow as well.  I can't talk my husband into doing it with me though so it will be a little more difficult, but he fully supports me wanting to do it.  We'll see how it goes.  Good luck!

It was day 1 today for me. My husband is also doing it with me, well supposed to be - he hasn't read anything and is just relying on me to tell him what he can and can't eat. I think I've done a reasonable job.... At least he's being supportive. We have a ten year old daughter and I'm keen to move her towards a paleo lifestyle (sort of without her knowing...)

Good luck to you both, hope we can help/advise/support each other.

Hello June 4thers!

Today was Day 1 for me too, kinda by accident- I've been reading up for a while, and slowly eating more whole30 meals anyway because of the influence, then today I watched this on YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FjNTc2dH0Dsand realised that today was the perfect day- I've gradually cut down on most things anyway, last night I indulged in some of my favourite forbidden foods at a meal out with my friends, next 2 weeks are pretty clear socially to make it easier, and in 30 days time I'm seeing my best friend for the weekend so it'll be perfect to (hopefully) celebrate completing the challenge!

So this morning I didn't have a proper breakfast, very rushed, but I was at least compliant in that I had almonds and grapes, I then grabbed a handful of Brazil nuts and cranberries before a yoga class at midday as well. Lunch was asparagus with poached egg- yum. Dinner I did cashew-crusted trout fillet with roasted peppers and rocket.

Tomorrow I'm planning a scrambled egg with a little cooked chicken, leftover peppers and spinach for breakfast, and I've made a packed lunch of leftover trout with sweet potato, broccoli, more peppers, and rocket with pumpkin, sunflower & chia seeds, and then strawberry, kiwi, blueberry and almonds with coconut.

Hope everyone else is feeling as pumped up as I am!

Starting day 2.  I'm hungrier than usual.  Yesterday went okay, boiled egg and plain coffee for breakfast, can of tuna, a couple of olives and a banana for lunch, grilled chicken, green beans and a baked sweet potato for dinner.  That's more than I normally eat...already had my boiled egg for this morning and I'm still hungry.  I normally eat a protein bar about now but that's out!  I brought a spinach salad with chicken and onions for lunch but I don't want to eat that yet.  I hate to cook but I guess I better start cooking something, lol

2boys do you normally eat breakfast? I found this morning that I felt hungrier a few hours after breakfast, I don't usually eat at all until a snack around 11ish. I powered through until lunch around 1.30 though, work was busy so didn't have time to deal with the hunger!

My day 2 has been pretty hard, I had a muscle spasm, took some anti-inflammatories but got confused and took a double dose, which made me throw up a few hours later. Also ended up at work really late, and my boyfriend was meant to come over for dinner but he's late at work too. I had planned to do some chicken with spinach pesto and veggies. But I couldn't stomach that idea so did a butternut squash soup with lots of spices, with a few hardboiled eggs and a little ham on the side.

At least I've stuck to plan though! Just winding down with some ginger tea now.

Breakfast for tomorrow is planned to be homemade sausage patties with sweet potato rosti, and fried eggs and tomatoes.

I'm in the UK by the way, so a little ahead time wise of most people here I think!

Day 3 on Whole30

Today I have felt so overwhelmed. I start of the morning tired but not able to sleep in.  I started to get a pretty bad headache around 10:30 so I took some Tylenol and felt much better.  For breakfast we had left over spaghetti squash with a fried egg.  For lunch my husband made Mexican Tuna. He has been amazing! He has cleaned up the kitchen and went shopping with me!  We spent Three Hours out of the house shopping so that we get food.  I know this part will get easier but it is soooo overwhelming!  I feel like I am never done.  We had super which was Salmon with veggies not my favorite but you can only do so much when I don't like Salmon to begin with.

It 8:50 PM and I am still not done.  I have a chicken in the oven so I can use the bones to make broth when its done.  I am sure it will get easy but today all I have done is think about the Whole30 and my brain is fried.  I am tired and I am confident I can finish but man I tired and done at this point in time!

Here's to day four hope you are better then day three!

Hey June 4ers!

End of day 5 for me here.

First weekend of whole30 went pretty well overall. The homemade sausage patties for breakfast on Saturday were lovely, my boyfriend loved them as well. Lunch was chicken salad, with a sesame dressing. And for dinner I did barbecue beef brisket in the slow cooker, with potato wedges and kale. Felt great all day.

Sunday morning I made a veggie frittata with mushrooms, tomatoes, sweet potato, spinach and ham. Lunch was a picnic with friends- I took salad, chicken, ham, beetroot, artichokes, olives, lots of fruit and coconut chunks. Drank sparkling water :-) and then dinner was carrot and swede mash, with baked chicken thighs and a spinach & walnut pesto.

Felt great most of the weekend but then had some stomach cramps Sunday night and more IBS symptoms this morning. It's disappointing when I know I have stuck to plan 100%, but I guess its early days yet though.

Today, day 5 and back at work, I have really felt grumpy all day, and had to try quite hard to stay smiley and keep my temper! I understand the "kill all things" thing! Food has been 2 meals of leftovers from the weekend, and this evening quite a lazy dinner of courgetti with spicy tomato sauce. I need to go to the supermarket tonight as I've run out of eggs already lol.

On the upside I've found that my veg delivery scheme I use has sugar-free bacon, so that's ordered to arrive in time for breakfast on Thursday!

My other main thought is I feel like I'm eating loads, and quite indulgently sometimes, it feels far too nice to be a diet haha!

Hope you had a good rest ursinedaysure and are feeling a bit better now

Anyone else still here?

I wonder if the walnuts could be causing your stomach cramps?  Nuts and folks with IBS tend to not "play well" together.

I am feeling better thanks OneDay!

The first week has been tough but glad its over! I am planning meals for the next two weeks as we speak.  My husband seems to be liking the diet more and more but still don't feel great!  I can't wait until that comes.  Last night was the first time I had cravings! I really wanted dessert but I knew I wouldn't have any!

Hi all,

Congrats on getting through 7 days!

I've been doing pretty well but have a lot socially in the next week personally and for work and that I am a little nervous about.  I am trying to plan and call ahead to restaurants but still feeling a bit uneasy.

I think I expected to feel a lot better after one week than I do now.  I am following all guidelines but thought my clothes would start to fit better.  I know it takes time but was hoping to see more positive signs after one week.

Megan I know what you mean!

My energy levels are pretty good and I feel pretty positive overall, I feel slightly less bloated in the morning I think, but no major change really yet.

My boyfriend is not doing W30 but obviously eating with me when he's here and has said hes enjoyed every meal. And it's rubbed off on him a bit- he's on a night shift tonight but has made himself a big salad, not his usual style!

My cravings have mainly been psychological - wine and dark chocolate. I'd usually have a glass of wine (or two!) whilst cooking/with dinner/chilling after dinner. I missed that. The other day I had some fancy sparkling water with lime and mint instead, and that was a decent substitute. Dark chocolate- again I'd nibble a bit after dinner watching a movie or something. Mindless eating really, but I missed it.

My win today was walking back from yoga this afternoon (on way home to make lunch), I was starving, had to pop into the local shop to pick up a few things on the way, and there were so many tempting treats in there, all ostensibly healthy but not w30. I almost caved and got some fruit to snack on but then spotted some compliant coconut water in the fridge and had that instead, which was very refreshing to drink walking home in the sun, and then I had my lunch as planned. Quite proud I stayed strong!

Well done on getting to day 8 team! Quarter of the way there :-)

Hi there,

Not trying to be a party pooper, but please do note though that coconut water is classified as a light fruit juice on Whole30 and they are not really approved for drinking.  Fruit juice is approved for dressings and recipes and coconut water is approved only after an intensive exercise session, a long day in the blazing heat or any sort of thing where you are becoming unusually dehydrated.

From the Can I Have Guide (where I now see they allow it as a "refreshing treat"....which I find odd):

Coconut Water: Read your labels

Most coconut waters are technically compliant, containing only natural sugars from the coconut. However, some brands add sugar to their ingredients, so read your labels. Anything with added sugar is out for your Whole30.

Tip: Coconut water is essentially a “light” fruit juice. If you’re involved in endurance athletics, work in a profession that leaves you prone to dehydration, or just want a refreshing treat, coconut water can be a fine choice for rehydration. Just don’t let coconut water take the place of plain old water in your daily routine.

Yup, I read that right off the website whilst I was in the shop. I was slightly dehydrated walking home in the sun after an hour of yoga, seems like the perfect time to be drinking some refreshing coconut water!

So no need to be a party popper ladyshanny looks like things have been updated since you last checked :-)

Hi all!

Happy Day 16!  How is everyone doing?

So I debated writing this because I usually don't like to ask for help but while I'm excited I've gotten to Day 16, I'm feeling a little discouraged about my results. I have a tough 2 weeks coming up with travel, house guests, etc. and was hoping I'd have small wins to keep be motivated.  I'm in no way thinking about quitting but was hoping I'd have more to show for it by now.

I decided to try the Whole 30 to change my eating habits and make me healthier overall.  I had pretty good eating habits prior but am definitely addicted to sugar and wanted to rid my cravings.  I always said if I give up sugar and alcohol 10 lbs would melt off!  But now I'm two weeks in and not seeing the results I would have liked.  Again, I know that shouldn't be our main reason behind doing this but it was one of my main motivations in trying to get the last 10lbs of baby weight off.

Also, I was really hoping my sleep would have improved but it seems to be worse!

My stomach has been pretty unsettled since I started so I cut nuts and coconut oil out of it this past week to see if that helps.

Anyways, would love if you could share your positive stories thus far and any tips you could give me to start feeling better about this whole process and keep me motivated!!  Anything you think I could be doing wrong!

Thanks!

Hi Megan -

I think this whole forum is so we can help each other :)  I actually am sleeping better which is great because I was taking Tylenol PM about every night...unfortunately, I can't tell you why I'm sleeping better.  I'm the same as you with the sugar and wine thing.  I don't think whole 30 is against vitamins & I'm taking magnesium and chromium picolinate to help with those cravings.  My stomach has been upset too...sometimes it feels like I'm carrying a rock in my stomach.  I'm trying to make sure I drink plenty of water which seems to help.  We aren't supposed to weigh so I don't know but my clothes are looser.  You're not drinking caffeine after noon are you?  That might be keeping you awake?  Other than the sugar and wine I had fairly good eating habits also...it will probably take people who do have a lot to lose a little longer.  I think your body is trying to adjust and really it takes longer than 16 days to adjust to anything...I bet by the end of the 30 you will be feeling better and even start losing some weight.  Good luck & good for you for not quitting!
