no compliant snacks in office and lunch wasn't enough ugh

Recommended Posts

mostly i'm just complaining.

i think i need a few lara bars and some almonds at my desk.

the chicken i brought for lunch was gross looking (possibly undercooked) so i didn't eat it.

and now it's 2pm and i have an appt at 4 and won't be able to go home first.

i went down to the snack place in our building because i know they have nuts but all the nuts are roasted in vegetable/soy/cottonseed oil.

i am not looking forward to the next few hours.

Larabars are not the best choice, to be honest.  Pack a couple of cans of sardines, salmon, etc into your desk with a can opener and a fork. This will give you protein and fat (oily fish has some fat in it) and keep you going until you can get a proper meal.  Larabars are candy and will spike your blood sugar and then drop you to the ground directly afterward, making the entire situation worse.

Can you pop out to a grocery store and grab yourself some hard boiled eggs or beef jerky?

You do not need a few larabars or almonds for your desk. Larabar bars specifically are to be eaten in emergencies only - Sorry, but not bringing enough food to work with you is a lack of planning, not an emergency.

Up the size of each meal if you are finding the need to snack & bring in some tinned tuna/salmon/sardines, a jar of olives, and maybe a jar of pickles to have in your desk for this type of situation.

For now can you get a herbal tea, or some sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon or something similar to get you through the next few hrs? Could the chicken be salvaged in anyway at the cafe? Did you eat what you had brought in *with* the chicken at least?

i don't drive and the closets store is too far.

i see everyone talking about lara bars for emergencies, but i don't eat that sort of thing pre-w30 anyways.

beef jerky and some packs of salmon is a really good idea.

i totally ate everything else i had with me.

the chicken was just not appealing - that wasn't poor planning - i brought enough for breakfast and lunch, only to find that the chicken was not cooked the whole way.

i'm drinking all kinds of water.

i'll make it.

just not having the best day.

Hang in there, mollycase! I'm sorry this happened. Kudos for going a little hungry until you can get to compliant food. HUGS!

My fave things to keep in my work drawer: compliant tuna pouches, wild sardines in water, Rooibos tea, WildZora jerky and EPIC bars. I try to always bring in baby carrots, bell pepper strips and a hardboiled egg.

I get some hilarious looks and comments about my big lunch portions, but sometimes, I still get hungry.

Just think how good your Meal3 will taste. :)

Ok, my mistake - I take it back  - just maybe in future pack two different meals to avoid the same scenario? Plus you'll have all these fab emergency foods anyways so you'll be fine...

Good for you for staying positive!

I made it! And I didn't feel nearly as crappy as I used when i had that long between meals.

Yay!

Good for you!!! Now...put some emergency protein on your grocery list so that this doesn't happen again! :)

I totally ran into this quite a bit during my first Whole30 when I was still calibrating how much food I needed to make through the day. I worked downtown so it was easy to run to the store, but hard to stick to complaint food when I was soooo hungry! And some days I had meetings and couldn't make a food run. Whole30 learning curve! Good job sticking it out, and I bet meal 3 tasted amazing :)
