kenzilisa
Can anyone recommend some restaurants in Houston where I can find Whole30-compliant food? I'm going to be downtown but I can Uber to wherever. Also, since beef is huge there I know I can get steak, but can anyone advise what to ask the waiter? Is steak usually cooked in butter? Is there a particular cut or preparation that is best? Can you recommend a health food store that has good stuff that is Whole30-compliant? I'm going for work and it may be kind of last-minute. I'm considering getting a suite or an apartment when I am there so I have a kitchen where I can prepare stuff or maybe actually cook. Thanks! Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted June 4, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 4, 2015 I'm not familiar with the Houston area, but this post may help in your search for compliant food: http://whole30.com/2015/03/business-travel/

kenzilisa
I tried searching for healthy restaurants in the area and then emailed some of them. This places cooks with olive and coconut oil mostly: http://www.myfitfoods.com/. That is my main concern since the oil meat is cooked in is rarely mentioned or even thought of. chezjulie
There are two paleo restaurants - Corner Table and Ruggles Black. You might try those. My Fit Foods is not a restaurant, but a place to pick up prepared meals that you microwave at home.
kenzilisa
Thanks Chezjulie for the info...it's hard to know all that from searching google maps!
chezjulie
A few more thoughts. There aren't any grocery stores downtown to my knowledge, but the Whole Foods on Waugh Drive is pretty close and you should be able to get lots of compliant stuff there to keep in your room. If you are looking for a place downtown where you can get a compliant casual dinner or lunch, it looks like there's a Barnaby's. I go there because I can make a compliant meal by ordering a buffalo burger (no bun!) with guacamole and plain broccoli or a plain salad, or their grilled chicken or grilled salmon plate. It's a cute place with fresh food.
kenzilisa
Oh yeah I forgot about Barnaby's; there is one 3 blocks from my office and I went there once. Thanks for the reminder. That will be great for lunches..
kenzilisa
My trip was cancelled due to bad weather. I'm kind of relieved to not have to travel during my Whole30 but I am disappointed I won't get to check out all the suggestions until my next trip. Thanks again!
