Day 30 (+18)

After 18 days or so on Whole 30, I noticed I was gaining a lot of weight, consulted this forum to find out I was consuming way too many fruits, nuts and bacon that had sugar, so restarted it from scratch and today is the 30 day I followed whole30 strictly.

I joined the Whole30/Paleo because I needed a change in my life but at the same time I wanted to lose the excess weight I had gained recently.

Overall I like the program, but I am not 100% this is the program for me in a weight loss perspective as I am known to binge late at night (usually on good foods like fruits but -> calories gained in the process)

Positive things I've noticed:

- sleeping better at night

- less stress but not 100% gone (my lifestyle is that way currently)

- more energy to do things around the house, working out, etc.

- 4lbs weight loss (though I wish it was more)

Negative:

- Still prone to overeating (Fruits)

- Binge eating not completely in control.

- Bloating / Constipation (taking Probiotics to see if it goes away)

I am going to try another Whole30 to see how it goes.

Hi Houmi, I'm glad to see that although you might not have gotten all the results you wanted, you were able to step back and objectively identify what worked and what didn't.

I recall you posting around when you decided to start over that you were having trouble with night eating?  It could be something as simple as upping your starchy veggie intake and making sure you have enough fat with meals which can help get your hormones in line and diminish that need for night eating.  Feel free to post a typical couple of days including portions, fluids, sleep and stress and if anything stands out we might be able to help.

You said your life is stressful right now, one of the most important things you can do during a stressful time is get proper sleep.  Bonus: if you're in bed sleeping you aren't up at night eating. ;)

Check out this article on stress from Melissa recently: http://whole9life.com/2015/06/stressful-times-2/

And again, congratulations on your Whole30!!  :D

Losing four pounds in a month is a lot. Some people lose a lot more, but losing at the rate of 2-4 pounds per month is the kind of progress that is likely to last. No one keeps losing a lot of weight very long.

Thanks for the link and Starchy Vegetable pointer, I'll try to incorporate them into my program.

The stress issue is going to be a bit hard to overcome as I study/code late at night. I have thought to eliminate coffee altogether as a way to force myself to fall asleep.

It might be worth it for you to "close the kitchen" once dinner is over.  This is a regular happening in our house.  Once dinner is cleaned up and the lunches are packed up and refrigerated, the kitchen is closed.  Lights out, blinds closed.  Aside from water or a cup of tea, there is to be no one in the kitchen until the next morning.  Drawing this line in the sand is obviously psychological but highly effective (at least for me).
