DuckMama
Today was dairy reintroduction day. It was happy and delicious, HOWEVER, there was a small amount of nausea after breakfast (which included cheese), super minor cramping after lunch(yogurt as a side) and then some gas through the day. My question is: what am I looking for? If a reaction is strong enough that I should cut the food out, will that be obvious? Just because I had gas for the first time in 47 days, does that mean dairy should go out of my diet? I don't want to ignore the obvious signs, but I am also curious about noticeable, but tolerable symptoms. Is the conclusion "wow I had some reactions to dairy. I should listen to my body and cut out dairy" OR "wow I had some minor reactions to dairy. I should remember not to eat dairy on date night and be prepared for being a little gassy when I choose to eat it." Thanks for your help!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 17, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2015 You get to decide what your reactions mean for you going forward. Do the symptoms you get bother you so much you want to always avoid them? Or are you okay with them occasionally if there's something that just really sounds good? Or are you fine with them when you're home, but avoid them in public? If you think your reaction might just be coincidence or if you want to narrow things down even more (like cream vs milk vs soft cheese vs hard cheese, or cow's milk vs goat's milk) you can always go back to whole30 eating for a couple of days and then do more specific reintroductions of different types of dairy, or just repeat the dairy reintroductions you already did to see if you get the same results. lcs75
I agree with Shannon, it will be your decision. I am on low fodmap and I keep a detailed diary of every single food I reintroduce and the symptoms they cause. Some will go for good, ie nausea and flu like symptoms are for me terrible (avocado and milk/yogurt) but I could and probably would be ok to deal with a morning with diarrhoea after a meal out. I also want to learn more about quantities, ie is a spoonful of butter in a restaurant meal ok...
