andyrea84
Hello! I'm sure some of you will hate me for saying this, and I should probably knock on wood because it could hit me like a truck any day now, but I'm not having any of the downsides I was expecting so far. Other than the sugar withdrawal headaches in the days before I officially started (but had already started 90%), everything is going so well. I've had to get my meal portions right to keep from feeling tired, but I've had absolutely no issues. The biggest thing I was expecting was sugar cravings. I've been a pretty healthy eater for many years, but for the past twelve months or so, my sugar/snacking issues have gotten out of control and led to weight gain and just generally unhealthy eating habits. Is it possible that my former good eating habits are making this experience easier? Or am I going to get to day 20 and lose my mind? I'm officially just day 6, although I cut out 90% of off-plan foods 11 days ago. Has anyone else gone through an entire Whole30 without the typical "bad" side effects? Or has anyone else experienced them extremely delayed? Hope everyone is doing well!!!
Administrators ladyshanny Posted June 19, 2015 Administrators Share Posted June 19, 2015 I suspect that because you "transitioned" into Whole30 11 days earlier, that you might technically be further along the "Timeline" than just Day 6. Since you had the sugar withdrawal headaches in your PreWhole30 days, you're probably past that now. Fingers crossed! Rejoice that you have no symptoms! MeadowLily
Feeling bad is not a requirement. No one loses their mind from eating three meals of whole foods aday. It's what we used to do before we knew about fast foods and highly engineered to be craved foods. Some of our parents grew up this way and none of them suffered...they actually thrived from growing large gardens, working the fields and processing their own meat. We're so far removed now from their normal that it is foreign to us to feel so darned good. The Whole 30 takes the guesswork out of whole food principles. The further we step away from our reliance on processed foods and the need for sweet and salty snacks ...the closer we are to the road to success on Day 30 and well beyond into the future. mjbenbenek
I just finished day 10 and I ate plenty of junk food before I started but I'm not having really any noticeable side effects. I keep wondering if I'm doing it wrong! I'm following all the rules and trying to be very careful and only eat food that I've prepared or prepped myself. My only theory is that my 23-year-old body can handle the change better and the coffee I introduced on day 2 due to a new job (lifestyle change #2) is helping with some of the side effects. Any thoughts?
AmyS
During my first Whole30, I felt good every day. No downsides. I've done other Whole30s that were harder, but a positive, pleasant, good-feeling Whole30 is a nice thing. Enjoy!
Jamiegwhole30
Today is Day 3 and I'm also worried that I must be doing something wrong. I haven't had any headaches, but I have had bursts of energy and then lulls of sleepiness (blood sugar?). I'm having trouble falling asleep at night (normally I have 1-2 coffees before noon) when before I had trouble staying awake past 8:30. And super stressful dreams! Tomorrow is when the super crankiness is supposed to start, but I still feel like I have the Day 1:What's the big deal? Attitude. Someone reassure me, please. Maybe a good job sticker or a virtual high five?
jmcbn
How you feel in the first few days is usually relative to how different Whole30 is from your previous diet.Shooting from the hip I'd suggest eating starchy carbs late in the day to help you sleep, and possibly adding in a magnesium supplement if you're not already doing so, and avoiding fruit early in the day to avoid those lulls of sleepiness you describe - fruit in the morning can greatly impact blood sugars having fasted overnight. If you'd like to post a few days worth of your food/liquid intake (indicating portions in relation to your palm size) along with activities we can assure you you're doing things right, or suggest a few other tweaks if necessary.... Michelle Y
All of my sugar withdrawal symptoms were psychological and behavioural rather than physical. Kicking the habit has been harder than kicking the food!!
Jamiegwhole30
Well, I just realized the Coconut Oil Pam I was using has Soy Lecithin in it. So I'm starting over anyway. ROUND 2!
