memaster13
I'm about to start my second Whole30 in the last year. I recently found out that I have several food allergies (almonds, shellfish, and gluten). Since gluten is in MANY foods, I am concerned about limiting those foods. If I limit it to only one or two days a week (not going crazy), is it okay to incorporate some gluten-free foods (i.e. ancient grain bread/roll, NOT pancakes, cakes, or donuts)? I have been gluten-free for about a month, and those gluten-free foods have not had any negative effects on me or any negative digestive issues. Thoughts? jmcbn
Sorry, a lot of those gluten free foods will contain non gluten grains such as rice flour (along with a whole host of preservatives), and with all grains off limits during a Whole30 the breads & rolls you describe would be off limits too. There is no gluten in any of the foods you would be eating during your Whole30 - just wholesome, nutritious, real food. And no need to eat either almonds or shellfish - there are many other food choices available to you.
MeadowLily
Most of those gluten-free foods have replaced the gluten with sugars. They may be hidden but they're in there. Tapioca and rice flour.. starchy sugars. They have negative effects on blood sugar, too. All of those gluten-free mixes are loaded with starchy sugars. The bread and rolls not much difference from the pancake and brownie gluten-free mixes. It's become rather gimmicky...everything is "ancient grains". One hopes but it could be last year's Montana wheat crop rather than from the distant lands of Tutankhamun and Noah.
