Quit?

Recommended Posts

I'm on Day 26 and I have never felt worse. I've been sick for about 2 weeks now, and have barely been able to eat. Anything that I do eat taste terrible. I don't think I've had a solid meal since last Sunday. Obviously my energy levels are extremely low, with today being the worst by far. I haven't had a single day of feeling better since being sick. I'm an emotional wreck. It's just all bad.

I'm trying to decipher if I should continue on to Day 31, feeling the worst ever or if I should quit early and continue on to my 90/10 paleo lifestyle.

I can't tell if I'm doing my body more harm than good in these last four days. I can't tell what's my pride vs. Listening to my body.

I would provide you with my latest meals but it's been so little that it wouldn't help. Usually an apple or steamed vegetables. I'm down to about half a meal a day.

What are you sick with? Flu? Cold? Certainly if you end your Whole30 on the last day and are feeling this crummy, you won't have a very good baseline with which to do reintroductions, you'd need to keep going until you start to feel better and get things back in line.  You certainly aren't harming your body by eating (as much as you can manage of) protein, veggies and fat.

I can't tell you what to do though.............

Strep, followed by a cold that won't go away. I'm worried that I'm doing harm by not eating enough.

Well yes....but leaving the Whole30 doesn't change that, does it?  If you're sick with no appetite then you are sick with no appetite.  And eating potentially bothersome things while sick isn't going to help either.  When you can eat, try to choose the most nutrient dense choices you can because eating enough nutrients is critical to healing.  What you are eating are the raw products that your body will use to patch you up.

I think your answer to this will be yes, but just to be certain, I'm going to ask. If you've been sick for two weeks with no improvement have you been to the doctor? And have you gone back for a second visit to say "hey! I'm not getting any better!" Are you using anything over the counter for symptom relief?

Cold and respiratory issues wreck your taste buds, especially if you have any sort of post-nasal drip going on. I've been there and, yes, everything is terrible. What got me through my last round of bronchitis was pho. Good bone broth, tender meat, and whatever veggies I could manage at the time.

Really though, this isn't an issue of whether or not should quit or continue on your Whole30. It's an issue of you need medical care.
