Margot
Holy guacamole...here we go!!! After graduation, 2 vacays, and the passing of my beloved dog my eating for the wrong reasons, my weight and my health have gotten unacceptably out of control...hence my decision to tackle a whole 30!!! (Though it may take more than 30 days to fix all that is broken;0) DAY 1: a general success -if not for this forum I would not have made it so THANK YOU - started my day off by spilling an entire cup of coffee on my sofa -I. FELT. LIKE. GARBAGE...headache, stomach ache, general anxiety...but then again I have been filling my body with garbage so what can I expect, right??? However...I slept wonderfully and that is HUGE for me!!! Feeling empowered for day 2!!!

MeadowLily
There's willpower and WANT-power. Want-power trumps won't-power every day of the week for years on end. You WANT it.

Margot
DAY 2 has come and gone and I made it woke up after a great nights sleep and mostly successfully conquered the day!!! B: cup of joe, cauliflower, and my "spaghetti-ish" sauce L: taco salad consisting of lean grass fed beef, lettuce, black olives, cherry tomatoes and some compliant salsa followed by 1/2 of an apple D:turkey cutlets, artichoke hearts, zucchini, cucumber slices and a few grapes along with a glass of perrier my slight detour off plan was a late night mini meal...was waiting up for one of my boys to get home and got sooooo hungry. i was afraid if i did not eat something i would eat anything oh well tomorrows a new day!!! also, my son drug me kicking and screaming to the gym and it really made a huge difference in the anxiety and fogginess i had been feeling...i may even try that again, lol Here's to DAY 3...i think i can, I think I can, I THINK I CAN!!! Margot
I'M STILL HERE!!!! Made it through day 3 but it was tough! Lots of cravings yesterday. I REALLY WANTED THAT BOWL OF FROZEN YOGURT. I was really feeling drug out and NOT great....but here I am! YES, I realize it is only 3 days of eating healthy not brain surgery but for me this is HUGE and I am thinking that I should be on top of the world but instead I am tired and have a headache...YUCK! And today...DAY 4...is supposed to be the kill all things day! I live in a house with 3 snarky teenagers.....uuuuhhhhhmmmmmm...help??? allaluce
Are you finding that Day 4 is not as bad as you planned for? I expected to Hulk smash everything I could, but so far, the green guy hasn't shown. A normal day for me - lots of cooking, chopping veg, and work. I've got some parts of this down pat - I know how I like my coffee now (Iced Americano with coconut cream), I have a routine, and I'm planning my eating out about a week in advance. I really do enjoy cooking, which I think it's half if not all of the battle for some people. Even my cravings are reduced. It's pretty awesome so far. Bronwyn
Allaluce, I was expecting a kill all the things day, but so far so good. You rock Margot!
allaluce
I maybe blew a gasket this morning when people would not leave me alone in the kitchen to get the things I needed done for the day, but that was the extent of my rage so far. I'm now in the "don't mess with me, I'm doing this alone already, so everyone else better just get out of my way" mindset, which I'm sure is delightful for the people at home... Margot
IM STILL HERE....YAY ME!!!! And yay all of you!!!!! ( and my kids survived as well ;0) DAY 4 was not as bad as I had feared! I did miss lunch though so I was a little grouchy but never felt like I wanted to kill anyone!!! Could have easily killed a glass of wine or bowl of fro yo though!!!!! DAY 5 is upon us...the hubs is off today so hopefully today is not my "kill all things" day...that could be a problem, lol... I'm finding this easier than I had anticipated and I know it's because of all of YOU!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT!!!! Margot
DAY 6= JULY4 SERIOUSLY... I obviously did not think this through, LOL!!! Today will be a struggle for me!!! Not necessarily food wise but I know when the sun goes down and the fireworks come out I am going to want a glass of red wine...just one glass...or maybe 2 ;o) It is Independence Day however, and hopefully my resolve will endure and it will have another meaning as well, lol... Here's hoping!!! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can;)

Margot
DAY 6 down...BAM!!!! Tough, tough, tough, tough,tough...but I made it through July 4 without straying from the plan! Oh, by the way, I made the almond poached pears with raspberry cream (recipe from the all about food book) and it is phenomenal!!! Definitely worth the time...and that's coming from someone who hates to cook!!! The whole fam loved it! Had it alongside beef tenderloin and broccoli...yum!!! Had a bit of a disappointment in the evening which definitely triggered my emotional eating cravings but I did not succumb...if I can gain control over that through this plan then it will be worth it all!!! ;o) Happy July 4th victory to all of you out there...and cheers to DAY 7!!! WE GOT THIS!!!!!! (In my best George Lopez voice, lol)
Margot
MAGICAL DAY 8 is upon us!!!! I've stuck to it for a week so i can now tell myself you're 25% complete...you can't give in now! today i need to attempt to do some planning and that is definitely not my forte' also going to commit to 10,000 steps a day this week...no excuses! im getting tired of feeling like i am always in the kitchen and getting bored with what i'm eating so this week i'm going to attempt to find some new recipes and figure out how to spend less time over the stove also have an impending trip and need to figure out how to travel and NOT FALL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!!! stacy116
I too am bored with the food and I have looked at all these recipes and I am just not hungry for them. I did a crock pot meal of roast yesterday which really helped in getting time away from the kitchen, plus it gave me left overs for lunch or another dinner. I am not eating as much cause it just doesn't excite me with all the work but I am determined to stay on track for the whole30. Good news is if I am not hungry then I won't eat much and I will lose more weight! How long are you going to be gone? Have you gone out to a restaurant yet? I did for lunch on the 4th. Just asked questions and got through it. It was kind of stressful so it wasn't very enjoyable in one way but now I am better prepared and it will be easier next time. Hang tough! jmcbn
Good news is if I am not hungry then I won't eat much and I will lose more weight! Nope. Sorry. If you're eating less than the recommended template then it's likely your body will hold on to what it's got for grim death - food restriction is counter productive! Maybe go back to very plain meals rather than trying anything fancy? Or try strong flavours? Curries, pickles etc.....
Margot
I haven't been brave enough to try eating out yet...don't trust myself at this point,lol... We will be gone almost a week so it will certainly be a challenge :0/ though I am looking forward to the break from the kitchen! And you are so right! Less in is more off!!! The pear recipe I mentioned is way worth trying. ..no joke! And the green chilI turkey burgers were easy and pretty fantastic as well. ..had them with guacamole and Pico and some salad... Chug a chug a chug a chug a choo choo!!!
Tina Marie
So - I'm throwing this at you .... I make meatballs - Well Fed and well Fed 2 cook books have a lot of great recipes Highly recommend getting those books... I digress.. so back to the meatballs... handy - great for M1 (breakfast for the die hard breakfast peeps) and then for taking on the road. These are my go to's when I have appointments. they are great room temp - I then bring along cut up fresh veggies to go with them. Wa - lah a meal. I actually made these for our trip to GA just a bit ago - and I felt so good eating while on the road - no Mc D stops - no Starbucks. I try to make 1 new recipe a week. and then always a stand by - like a roast with lots of root veggies. then I can make hash for various meals. Good Luck with your planning !! That sounds like something right up my alley! I will definitely try them! Any "sauces" with them or do they have enough flavor on their own??? I did make a slow cooker pork carnitas yesterday and it was a huge hit!!! I doubled the recipe and get to take the day off from cooking today!!!! Yay !!!! Yesterday was a really tough day for me!!! When the hubs came home from work boy child #3 told him to watch out because i was grouchy, lol ;0) Also, I'm feeling a bit bloated today and think it may be from the nuts I ate yesterday??? Going to cut them out for a few days and see if I'm right. Having trouble making myself eat breakfast this morning :-/ Can't believe it's DAY 9 already!!! Thank you all for getting me this far!!! Here's to a great one!!!

Having trouble making myself eat breakfast this morning :-/ Yep, nuts, cruciferous veg, raw veg, (& especially raw cruciferous veg - think broccoli salad!!) ice cold water, and sparkling water/seltzer, as well as veg like peppers (due to the skin) can all cause bloat. Cut out the nuts and see how you go.

Here's to a great one!!! That is how I felt yesterday (all of it) and according to the book as your gut heals you could bloat for a few days and have constipation/diarrhea. It should pass in a couple days. I figured it's because I have been congested for a couple of days due to allergies. I am better today and headed to the gym. Hopefully that will help.
