New40Pam
Hi There I started the whole30 yesterday! All great until I read last night that fruit shud not be used as a snack. In the afternoon I always have some nuts and an apple about 4 pm! Is this allowed ? Please say yes? Also if is not why not? It's healthy and within guild lines I think?!?! Thanks
jmcbn
Snacking is discouraged on Whole30 because the digestive system needs time to rest between meals. The aim is to eat three meals of protein, fats & vegetables, spaced 4-5 hours apart, the first being within an hour of wakening.Snacking on fruit alone (or a fruit & nut combo) is discouraged because of the inevitable effect on blood sugar. Incorporate the fruit and nuts into your meals if you must have them - apple & berries work well in salads, as do nuts sprinkled over as a garnish. If you genuinely feel the need for a snack (ie. you could happily eat some steamed white fish & broccoli) then have a mini-meal of protein, fats & veggies, and then increase the size of your meals the following day. If snacking is a habit then find yourself a new, healthier habit - try a mug of herbal tea, some seltzer, or some plain old water. Or find something that occupies the hands and the mind - like crafting or crochet.
New40Pam
Thank you! Snacking is a big habit of mine. I tend to skip meals and snack lots. I will eat more at meal times today. Thanks!!
