Day 2 and serious aversion to meat and eggs

Recommended Posts

I am only on day 2 but from meal to meal my aversion to meat and eggs has grown, to the point I can barely keep it down and the thought of food makes me queasy. It has made me realise that although I am not a vegetarian, I only ever ate meat about twice a week. Eggs I only ate occassionally and then just one at a time. I think I survived on dairy (which might be my problem). I am dealing with the aversion by just eating as much as I can take (usually a small portion) but I have a very active lifestyle and am concerned about energy levels and losing too much weight (not one of my goals). Any ideas on how to handle this? Will it change during the course of the program?

You might find some helpful suggestions in this article.

Would it help to have more fish? Or maybe prepare your eggs in different ways? You really do need to be sure you're eating enough -- at least one palm-sized portion of protein at each meal, or as many whole eggs as you can hold in your hand.

You may not be ready to complete a Whole30 if you cannot eat a palm-size portion of animal/fish protein or a handful of eggs at each meal. You may need to work your way up to it by intentionally doing the best you can and then supplementing with other forms of protein until you can stand to consume enough.

Some people struggle with strong aversions when others don't, so how long it might take you to adjust is unpredictable.

When you have not been eating much meat, you may need to take digestive enzymes to support your gut as you increase consumption.

I am still sick of eggs from my first Whole30 six months ago! It is helpful to really mix it up or put a lot of veggies in the eggs.

One recipe that gets me through is egg muffins (for example, this one http://www.galonamission.com/paleo-breakfast-muffins-whole-30-approved/).

The 'muffins' are full of veggies, eggs, and I usually wrap prosciutto around them instead of put sausage in them. It takes the feeling of egg away.

Hope that helps!
