collierville5
I found a great site with Whole 30 compliant items www.barefootprovisions.com. One item that said compliant but I was questioning was organic cacoa nibs. Any idea about these or if they are allowed? I thought they might be good sprinkled in coffee or mixed with cashews and coconut for a trail mix.
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted July 12, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 12, 2015 Technically, they're allowed. I'd be careful with the trail mix, though, it could easily be food without brakes. If you did make it, you'd need to be sure you were using it as part of a meal, not snacking on it. This question has been addressed many times before. To find previous discussions of this or any other ingredients you have questions about, try googling Whole30 + whatever you're looking for. Whole30 cacao nibs, for instance. The Can I Have list is also a great resource, here's what it has to say about cocoa: Cacao (100%): Yes Cacao (or 100% cocoa) is great when used as a savory spice (our Mocha Steak Rub, found in It Starts With Food, is a great example), but you can also feel free to add it to your coffee or tea, or brew it Crio Bru-style. But per the rules of the program, it’s not okay to add cocoa to dates and other fruits to make chocolate-y confections. Read our Great Cocoa Debate for details. Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 12, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 12, 2015 You should not eat trail mix. You should not eat "snack" food. You should eat full meals with protein, veggies, and fat. If you feel like eating something between meals, it is a sign that you are not eating enough or not eating enough protein or fat at your meals. That means you should adjust your meals and not keep eating a snack.
