hollytracy
I am on Day 9 and have had a headache every day! Every day! I was already a black coffee drinker and really didn't have any caffeine other than that. I've maintained my black coffee drinking so I don't think the headaches are a result of caffeine withdrawl. When will the headaches stop????? You gotta give me something, here, Whole 30 folks. Thank you!Holly
Administrators ladyshanny Posted July 15, 2015 Administrators Share Posted July 15, 2015 Sorry you're suffering! Can you post a few typical days of food consumption including portions, fluids, meal timing, exercise, stress, sleep etc? Anythign else we need to know (ie, autoimmune, nursing, pregnant). We can take a look and see if anythign stands out. How's your water intake? Recommendation is 1/2 ounce per pound of bodyweight. I moved this to Troubleshooting rather than the "Announcements" section as I rather doubt you meant to announce your head hurt. Edit: PS, I also added "ongoing headache" to your title. Carlaccini
Okay - first thought that entered my brain was you are probably not eating enough. So let's start there. Are you able to list out the last few days worth of meals? Please include water intake and activity level as well.
pzMimi
I'm the same. Headaches every day and I'm on day 10. I was wondering if it was too much water? Today I woke up (7:00) with no headache, then so far today I had 30 oz of water before breakfast (I have a 20 oz cup I fill). For breakfast I had 2 eggs, 2pc bacon, sauteed vegetables (about 1 cup). (I ate breakfast at 8:00) After breakfast I've filled up my water cup 2 more times so that's another 40oz of water. And my headache has been coming and going today. Over the last few days I have noticed they do go away after I eat. So it could be food related. But I've just eaten and am pretty full still. I've also cut out caffeine - I used to have tea several times throughout the day and a cup of coffee in the morning. I've cut them out.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted July 16, 2015 Administrators Share Posted July 16, 2015 Are you salting your food, Mimi? Could it be possible that you are not providing your body with enough and then drinking the proper amount of water dilutes what electrolytes you do have, causing headache? Often when we remove processed foods from our intake we inadvertently remove almost all of our dietary sodium. Your body needs sodium for proper functioning. From my perspective I had a headache nearly every day for the first 14 days of my first Whole30. Then 3 pain free days and then another week of it. Fortunately once that all regulated itself, I've had maybe one or two mild headaches in the last 8 months. It could be that your body is still readjusting. pzMimi
Yes, I'm salting my food. I must admit, I love salt! But I'm eating more so maybe that's part of it too. I'll try adding more. It is getting "better" but still niggling.

hollytracy
I am drinking tons and tons of water. I drink a 32 oz jug probably 6 or so times a day which was typical of me before Whole 30, as well. I'm a big water drinker. I also have iced tea sometimes with meals. For breakfast today I had proscuitto, an avocado, cherry tomatoes, capers, and a glass of apple juice (no sugar added, don't worry). For lunch I had bowl of squash soup with shredded roasted chicken added to it and bunch of grapes. I had probably 3 handfuls of kale chips as a snack this afternoon. This is a pretty typical day for me. I'm eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meal timing has been fairly regular. I'm not waiting too long to eat or anything like that. Though I am hungry. All. Of. The. Time. I'm not excercising a ton, but I am swimming and walking. I've been sleeping fine. In fact, I've felt lethargic and have been sleeping longer than typical for me. I'm not pregant, nursing, or have anything else going on. Pretty typical gal who is hungry and has daily headaches and is way tired of cooking. Something has got to give soon. My willpower is fraying rapidly.

Protein is 1-2 palms of protein per meal and unless you ate $50 worth of procuitto, and the chicken in your soup was a few cups I suspect that you're not eating enough. Can you post a few days of meals including portion size and maybe there's something that stands out... but lethergy, tiredness, hungry and headaches all point to not enough food! Not to pile on, but you might want to consider leaving off the apple juice. It doesn't matter if it's not sweetened, fruit juice is permitted on W30 for using in cooking, not for drinking.
