Bexstoth
Day 14. I am shattered! where is my boundless energy?! I have IBS and while I have had no bloating or gurgling on whole30 I am still having an urgent and sloppy poo in the mornings (sorry for tmi!) I am still sleepy in the mornings, so tired today I had to nap and my eczema is still there. and I am still craving ALL the things! Just feeling like there is no progress, no Tiger blood and not sure any of it is working
GFChris
Sorry you're feeling frustrated. A gentle reminder that it's a 30 day program. http://whole30.com/2014/01/whole30-tough-love/Expectation setting-wise, if you've been living with IBS or eczema for any length of time, it could take a while (even perhaps longer than 30 days) to experience changes. If you post 2-3 days worth of your typical food on your Whole30, including portion sizes, water consumption, any exercise and hours of nightly sleep, we'll have more information to suggest any possible tweaks. GFChris
Ok, a few things:- I can't tell portion sizes from what you've listed, but given the couple times you were hungry, it makes me wonder whether your meals are big enough. Play with the portion sizes until your meals satiate you for 4-5 hours. - if you're having coffee before your meal 1, that can act as an appetite suppressant. Best to have that with or after your meal.- please drop the Nakd Bar. If you still have them in your home, hide them or give them away to someone else for the rest of your Whole30. If you're hungry between meals, have a mini meal of protein, veg and fat- raw vegetables can cause digestive distress, so consider switching to all cooked vegetables- you might want to experiment with removing foods greyed out on the egg and nightshade free or low FODMAPS approach, and see if that brings you relief. - water is really important, especially given your current poo situation. Please make every effort to drink at least 1/2 an ounce of water per pound of body weight, daily.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted July 16, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 16, 2015 Hi Bex! I think you would do well to remove the fruit and increase veggies with every meal to 1-3 cups... your M1 on D2 for instance is 'cucumber'. Unless you ate three cucumbers, my guess is that it was a few pieces and if you're hungry enough to snack, then you're not eating enough. It's hard to tell portion sizes of 'meatballs', 'smoked salmon' and 'salmon filet' but my hunch is that you could increase your protein significantly as well and some of your meals are lacking fat (M2, D2 for instance). Eat more and I think you'll find the magic you're looking for!
Munkers
For what it's worth, I'm on day 12 of my third go-around with the Whole30. I've been eating a mostly paleo/primal diet for a number of years AND I even did a six week stint on AIP. I don't have tiger blood either and I've never experienced it. But the reality of my situation is that I have an autoimmune disease and possibly some other issues and those things take a toll on you. IBS is nothing to sneeze at. It does a lot of damage to your body AND, just to kick you while you're down, it mucks up your ability to digest and absorb good food that would help give you the nutrition you need in order to heal. The Whole30 is not a magic wand or an instant miracle. It's your starting point. It's not realist to expect a long term chronic condition to be 100% gone after only two weeks. This is the time to learn and pay attention to how your body handles different foods. Something can still be a symptom-trigger even if it's Whole30-compliant. Bexstoth
I know :/ I think I'm just disheartened by all this "have you got tiger blood yet?!" and I'm not!
Administrators ladyshanny Posted July 17, 2015 Administrators Share Posted July 17, 2015 I hate "tiger blood", it sets people up for such disappointment. I like "better blood". As in, "I feel better, I sleep better, I look better, I'm eating better, my skin is better, my bathroom/digestion is better, my xyz-thing-that-is-important-to-you is better,". That's all I ever get. I get a bit more stamina to do chores and dog walks in the evening, I putter more, sleep deeper, wake up easier. Tiger blood though? No clue. Bexstoth
Thanks guys, feeling better today. Still dodgy tummy this morning and didn't want breakfast but ate it anyway then cycled to town and back (10 miles or so and hilly on the way home) no snacks today and only fruit was a peach with dinner. Now feeling gooooood! I have banned the nakd bars for the next 2 weeks now just trying to work out if anything else I'm eating is causing the upset stomach in the morning or if its normal part of the healing process. Cant bring myself to give up eggs and nightshades as well as everything else! :/

Cant bring myself to give up eggs and nightshades as well as everything else! :/ HI Bexstoth - I am/was having a lot of trouble with (undiagnosed) IBS-D and I didn't see even a glimmer of hope until the last 3 or 4 days of my 1st Whole 30. I took a month to do some small reintroductions and noticed it was getting worse again, so started my 2nd W30 on July 1. This time around I'm keeping very close track of what, and in what amounts, I'm eating, how much water, exercise if any, and how my BM's are every day (number, consistency and urgency) and I'm noticing a definite improvement without going low FODMAP or doing the AIP. I too didn't want to give up those foods - most of the veggies I love fall in one or the other category. Anyway, I just wanted to say sometimes it does take quite a while for your gut to rebalance and heal so hang in there!
Carlaccini
Hi Bex! We know this is hard..... Really we do. My first whole 30 I saw glimpses of the infamous "Tiger Blood" but it didn't really truly appear until day 24. So give yourself a little patience. I think dropping the raw veg will help you with your upset tummy. Trust me all my veg is pretty much cooked (except for the occasional salad) as I cannot digest raw veggies that well. They ((ahem)) come out the same way they went in. Try drinking some bone broth... or if that is not an option try a Collagen Hydrosylate supplement. It helps with both digestive and skin issues. But bone broth is definitely the superior choice I think. With regards to eczema - I have battled with this my entire life. At one point I had it over 60% of my body. With the first whole 30 pretty much all my skin issues resolved (I have a few AI related skin issues) except my hands. They did get better but they were still super dry, and cracking a bit. I recently cut back on eggs significantly - and it did get better. I also had to cut back on ghee as it correlated with my skin cracking. (I love both of these items so they will never be out 100% - just most of the time) So while the whole 30 is a fantastic starting point sometimes it takes a while for things to change. This is why we urge you to have patience.
Bexstoth
thanks guys! I am hoping that with time it will get better and I just need patience rather than cutting out even more foods. I am pretty certain that dairy is a problem and was sort of dairy free before so that's no biggie. I also know that too much raw veg can be hard to digest and any cruciferous veg have to be really well cooked. Raw cabbage in slaw is right out!! OK- just keep swimming looking forward to doing proper poos! will keep you posted
