Administrators ladyshanny Posted July 17, 2015 Administrators Share Posted July 17, 2015 Can you post some detail about your specifics? What are you eating (include portions as they relate to your palm/thumb), how much water, what exercise, what stress, time of month, pregnant/nursing, sleep etc. What sort of background of nutrition did you come from? A fairly healthy intake or lots of processed, reduced calorie, fat free etc?
eboyle86
I can tell you that I'm hungry all the time I think for me it's more mental as I've been overweight and an over-eater/grazer my entire life. I lost 60 pounds by calorie counting to within 1200 a day but switched to Whole30 as a means of eating enough food without calorie counting and not gaining weight (I've actually slowly lost weight during the almost year I've been eating Whole30/Paleo. I've gone from 250 in March 2010, to 225 May 2013 and 142 June 2015). BUT, I'm still always hungry. As soon as I finish breakfast I think about when and what I'm going to eat for lunch. As soon as I finish lunch, I think about dinner. And as soon as I eat dinner I think about what I have in my cupboards that I could possible tack onto my meal to tell myself it was part of dinner....It's very much a mental battle for me trying to combat my old eating habits and telling myself that I just ate and don't need to eat again. I'm usually pretty good between M1 and 2 and 2 and 3 but after dinner, man does my stomach act like it's dying and has to be fed. I do my best to ignore it and not give in but I would be lying if I said I stick to only three meals EVERY day. That being said, seeing an example of your daily food would be great. I know from experience, that I don't really eat enough fat to keep myself from feeling hungry and that's a lingering side effect of the calorie counting
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted July 17, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2015 I found during my first Whole30 I had to eat more than I thought seemed reasonable at each meal -- and I've always been a big portion eater. The Meal Template (see link in my signature) is a minimum recommendation. If you can't go 4 hours after a meal before you get hungry again, eat more. Don't skimp on your fat! annc3333
I'm experiencing the same thing. Hunger especially at night and after eating a significant amount of food. My stomach hurts from it, especially by the time I go to bed and then I have trouble sleeping. Last night I ate at least a palm or two of ground beef, a large portion of cabbage and onion stir fry with a few tablespoons of homemade pesto (no cheese) for the fat. I ate around six and it was very filling but by ten I was starving and had trouble getting to sleep because of it. I know there are not rules against eating more than three times a day but I would like to keep it to three because I think it will enhance the chances of me losing some weight which is my priority right now. Historically eating carbs before I go to bed helps my sleep a lot. Like eboyle86 I've also lost a significant amount of weight in the past (75 pounds), although in the last 1.5 years I've regained 12 pounds of it. I have seen this pattern many times from others who have lost a lot of weight, always feeling hungry. It seems we might just be left with a lifetime side effect of messed up hunger/satiety hormones. Or maybe we are still doing something wrong--eat more, eat less, eat this, eat that…I keep trying to figure it out but nothing miraculous yet, just a lot of work and focus. Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted July 20, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 20, 2015 annc, cabbage and onion are delicious but if your stomach hurts you might want to experiment with different veggies -- both of those can cause trouble for some. I would eat a starchy veg like butternut squash, beets or sweet potato to hold you longer.
