Problems with the gut :(

Hello,

I am on Day 5 and I have really bad IBS-D  that started 2 days ago and also my face looks like a teenage pimple field :(

The loss of energy with IBS-D is concerning me :(

My main food sources are unprocessed meat, eggs, lettuce, capsicum, carrot, potato, spinach, tomato, with coconut oil and olive oil, salt, pepper, rosmary, little olives, macadamia or pecan nuts. I have the odd banana (i.e. in a stir-fry) or a mandarine after a meal. I am mainly ok with 3 meals a day, I mainly get cravings in the evening.

What is going on?

Okay, I will try to help but its hard to really tell by the way you listed your foods out.

If you are eating a lot of raw foods - it could be irritating your IBS-D

I noticed you eat pecans and macadamia nuts - however I have no idea how often you are eating them or how much.  If it's more than a closed handful every few days - it may be too much.  Nuts are also well known for causing gut disruption and bloating for many.

As for acne - it could be the nuts, eggs or nightshades (tomatoes and peppers) that could be a possible contributing factor.  But please note that things generally do get worse for skin conditions before they get better.

Just a couple of other notes - are you eating according to template:  1-2 palm sized portions of protein (that's the height, width and depth of your palm) 1 - 3 cups of veggies, 1-2 thumbsized portions of fat? With every meal?

Are you consuming enough water?  You should aim for half your body weight in ounces a day.  So a 128lb person would be drinking eight 250ml glasses of water a day.

Are you hungry between meals?  Your meal should hold you for 4 to 5 hours.

As I am reading more and more of the forum topics, I am finding that nuts are a big cause of GI distress. Prior to my whole30, nuts did not cause my stomach to hurt but now they do! It has happened with pistachio nuts, macadamia nuts, and almond butter, even after just 1 serving (1 oz. of raw nuts or 2 T. Of nut butter). It doesn't happen every time I eat them though but when it does it makes me want to not eat them again.

Are there nuts that cause more GI distress than others? Should I start avoiding nuts and nut butters? My stomach is really hurting and cramping after just eating 1 oz. of macadamia nuts!

While nuts are an approved fat on a Whole30, the recommendation is to consume them in limited amounts.

It sounds like nuts are not your friend. For that reason, I'd recommend dropping them, using other fats instead, and see if your symptoms improve.
