I retired from teaching high school math a month ago and had already committed to a better exercise routine. I don't like diets and my over-all belief is that moderation is always the key when it comes to food.  However, I found that my alcohol consumption had become somewhat more than moderate and my food choices were sometimes not very healthy.  My son, daughter-in-law, sister and brother-in-law all have completed Whole30 and recommended it to me.  My mom and dad agreed to do it too, so I have a support system.  And although my husband is not committed, he has not been negative about it; as a matter of fact, now that I've made it to day 12, I think he is being won over.  I'm pleased.  I don't count have to count calories or measure portion sizes.  I love fruits and vegetables.  Giving up alcohol has been way easier than I thought it would be (of course, it's summer vacation and my stress level is low, so it was probably really good timing regarding starting Whole30).  The most difficult part has been not being able to put sweet-n-low in my coffee.  That's still hard!  But, my son and sister said that even after 30 days, they have never gone back to sweetening their coffee.  Anyway, I know I have a way to go, but I feel good and like I have already accomplished something.  I feel confident that I will be able to complete the thirty days.  I'm not much of a cook and don't really like to follow recipes, but I'm coming to the point where I need to branch out and try something new.  So far, I've been eating eggs and tomatoes for breakfast, an avocado and tomatoes (with lemon juice) for lunch, and some type of meat off the bbq with a veggie for dinner.  I also have almonds and cashews on the ready and drink sparkling water or kombucha.  But I think I may have to break down and make the mayo and maybe use some of the recipes in the book to spice things up a bit.  I weighed myself on the day I started the program, and I hope I will lose a little weight by the end.  But, if not, at least I feel better and will have cultivated some confidence in my ability to have control over what I feed myself.

It's great that you're feeling good!

Have you seen the meal template? It's linked in my signature. For best results, make sure all your meals meet the meal template.

Definitely try some new recipes. It's good to have some easy to make favorites, but branching out and trying new things can help prevent food boredom.
