Betsy H
I know this may seem like a humblebrag but I'm on Day 12 and I have yet to feel really terrible or struggle much with the foods I gave up. Before my Whole30, I was eating garbage - liters of diet Coke every day, alcohol every night and that doesn't even include all the sugar and breads I ate. I expected to feel the effects or crave all that garbage but I haven't yet and, with the exception of a few accidental missteps, I have really stayed true to the program. Should I be worried I haven't had more than some bloating and stomach discomfort in the first few days? Does this mean it's not working? Am I unknowingly doing something that's not compliant? Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 18, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 18, 2015 Some people never feel terrible. You might be one of those. However, if you would post several days of what you have been eating and drinking, we might be able to offer some useful feedback.
mathgirl
I haven't really felt bad either. I little bloating and constipation but nothing terrible. Otherwise I've felt about the same. I'm on Day 13.
Betsy H
Thanks for the replies! It's funny because after posting this, I went for a run and when I got back - giant bloated stomach! But still...not feeling too badly. I will hope I'm one of the lucky ones! For meals, I've mostly taken from the Whole30 cookbook and Well Fed Paleo. This week, I ate basically the same thing most days since I had lots of leftovers - Breakfast - Spinach and Meat muffins x2 Snack - Banana (sometimes with almond butter with chia) Lunch - Czech Meatballs and Cumin-Roasted Carrots Snack - Fruit or Guacamole Dinner - Blue Ribbon Country Chicken plus a steamed vegetable Tonight I had a pork chop, sweet potato and cole slaw w/ raisins and approved mayo. I'm thinking the raw veg is causing the bloat tonight.
jmcbn
The raw veg could be causing the bloat, or the nut butter & chia seeds if you've been eating them daily.Nuts & nut butters whilst compliant should be eaten in moderation, and snack are discouraged altogether - particularly when it involves fruit/nuts/nut butters as these foods will play havoc with your blood sugars and mess with your appetite. I don't see fat in any of your meals (which could explain why you're opting for fat to snack on) & they all look low in veg to me - the recommendation is for 1-3 cups of cooked veg with 3 being the optimum. You'd really benefit more from including fat with your meals, and quite possibly increasing the size of them overall thereby cutting out the need to snack at all. Betsy H
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't mention but I do cook everything (proteins, veggies) in cooking fat so I feel confident I am getting enough there but will focus on increasing vegetables. I'm definitely not looking to feel badly but just want to be sure I'm not missing something obvious. :-)
jmcbn
Bear in mind that most of the fat that you cook in stays in the pan so it doesn't do any harm to add another fat source to each meal...
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted July 20, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 20, 2015 Kudos on all the cooking! Looks like you are making some delicious meals! If you are feeling the need to snack in between meals, you need to eat more at each meal. It may seem like too much, but give it your best shot. Whatever you can't finish, pack it up and take it with you. If you get hungry before the next meal, eat the rest of what you have left. If you don't have leftovers, and you get hungry, we want you to eat a mini-meal composed of protein, veggies and fat. You don't want to eat fruit or nuts by themselves, only as an addition to meals (and in limited quantity).
Betsy H
Thanks for the feedback! That's a great idea about the leftovers. I do often find I'm having trouble finishing so maybe I will start doing that. Also, in the last few days, I've found myself snacking a lot less. I used to be someone who ate every 1.5 hours so I think it was a hard habit to break but seems like my body is coming around. I've also packed some chomps and carrots w/ guac for snacks instead of the fruit so i'm slowly getting there! Thanks again for the help!
