Racheletti
It's my first Whole30 and I've generally been finding it ok. Energy levels have improved, which was my main reason for starting the program. However, I had big flare up of eczema around day 4, and this still hasn't cleared up. Around day 14 I started with a bout of thrush (do you call it candida in the US?), something I haven't had for a few years. Today I feel yucky and itchy. I'm a little concerned that a compliant food is triggering all this. I'm not sure what to do-do I finish the program as is (hoping these things will clear off of their own accord) or should I start eliminating more foods now looking for a cause? The thought of this makes my heart sink a little, I'm already struggling to maintain my weight (I'm slim and don't have weight to lose) and am not loving the thought of eliminating yet more food. However, I don't want to trigger any more inflammation if that's what this is. Typical day for me is: breakfast: eggs and bacon fried in ghee, mixed greens, some kind of starchy veg, piece of fruit Lunch: salad with mixed veg, sunshine sauce, salmon, mayo, sweet potato Dinner: steak, greens, butternut/sweet potato, sometimes white potato In order to keep my weight up I've been snacking occasionally on compliant trail mix, a nakd bar (think these are uk equivalent of Lara bars) and making a shake with half a banana, almond butter and coconut milk. I also have coffee with coconut cream. Thanks for any advice you can offer (first time poster and general newbie here)
Loulabelle
Hiya, I have eczema too and it flared up during my W30 as well. In my case it was eggs causing it. From reading quite a few posts on here a flare up seems to be quite normal as some things tend to get worse before they get better.
Racheletti
That's interesting. I have been eating so many more eggs than normal so I did wonder. Did you have to completely eliminate eggs to make it go away?
Loulabelle
I ended up going to a dermatologist/allergy Dr who helped me figure out that I am allergic to eggs so I can't eat them any more. My skin took a few weeks to clear up and was really good for a long time, I'm suffering with it now as we are having a heatwave in Switzerland and that is making my skin horrible. annc3333
I've got a long history of yeast infections which resulted in all the tissues in that area becoming hypersensitive including my bladder (Interstitial Cystitis). At this point I know within a few hours if I've over done something I'm sensitive too. Since following Whole 30 I've been the most pain and itch free I've been in years. However, in the beginning I added coconut milk because I gave up dairy (one of my staples.) After about four days of drinking it in my coffee twice a day I had a major flair up. Once I cut out coconut milk it took about five days for everything to settle down again. If coconut milk hasn't been part of your diet previously or you are using a lot more than usual you might start there. Remember that it takes up to five or six days for the irritated tissues to heal and recover so don't assume too soon that something is not the trigger. Hannlib
I did a w30 in February with the aim of eliminating persistent thrush. I was successful, but it took the full 30 days to happen. Also, all the fruit and dried fruit and nuts you are eating will not be helping with this at all and I would suggest eliminating those (nakd bars and banana shakes aren't appropriate snacks on w30 anyway) and upping your protein, fat and veg intake at meals (even add a 4th meal if you like) to keep your weight on. I did no fruit at all for 45 days to get rid of my thrush. It is tedious, but so worth it!!
Racheletti
Thank you for these helpful replies. I think I knew deep down the shakes and nakd bars had to go! Yes, I have added in a lot of coconut milk/cream since starting, and I didn't really use it before. I have been giving it some thought as I also had a migraine this afternoon (aargh-another of my reasons for doing the program which seems to be worsening). I have decided to try and avoid eggs, nightshades, coconut milk, fruit and nuts for the rest of the 30 days and see where that gets me. I will add in extra meal which should fit quite well as I can have it at my son's early tea time. Now off to add a shed load of meat and veggies to my online shop
Britishgal
Those nakd bars are dangerously sweet and addictive! I try to ignore them now
